Young tennis stars battle in St Lucia
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Three of the country’s top junior tennis players are currently in St Lucia where they will compete in the Coca Cola St Lucia International Tennis Federation (ITF) Tournament which got started over the weekend.
Female players D’Jeri Raymond, Jonelle Anderson and Ramonia Tomlinson will all compete in the Under-18 category of the respected competition.
Antigua & Barbuda will be represented in the Under-14 division by Cordell Williams Jr., Justin Marcano, Aron Fields, Kimel Williams, Chante Francis and Kayan Williams.
PRO of the Tennis Association, Dianne Hillhouse, believes all the athletes have the ability to do well in their respective divisions.
“I think we have solid team. We have a few first timers in both age categories but all of them are quality players and should have good showings. At the end of the day nothing beats experience and everyone is different but they will have to encourage each other,” she said.
“There is really no pressure to win but this is a different level with more athletes from more countries to include Japan so it’s a total different level,” Hillhouse added.
The team is being managed by travelling coach Erica Williams.
Less than two weeks ago, Antiguan Selene Kentish won both the doubles and singles title in the 12 & Under Division of the Coca Cola Invitational in St Lucia.
