Three-time winner of the Jumpy Party Monarch competition, Tian “The Winter man” Winter has confirmed true, rumours he would not be vying for the crown in the Jumpy section of the Party Monarch competition this year.

Winter won the title in 2009, 2010 and 2012. He has, however, indicated he will be defending his crown in the Groovy Monarch competition.

“I know I have been a staple in the competition since 2009 and I’m proud of my achievements in the competition in such a short space of time … but competing in both every year isn’t always an easy undertaking mentally or financially,” he said.

He noted that the investment artistes make to participate in the show is usually more than what they get in prizes.

As such, he said, the artistes had formed an association and approached the Carnival Development Committee (CDC) about an increase in prize monies.

“We believe we have produced the biggest show during the week of activities and put in a lot more than we do get out and the CDC along with the new minister with responsibility for Carnival, Chet Greene were very open to having the discussion which we appreciated immensely. We, however, understand that we were a bit late in our approach and hope we can have those discussions with the body as soon as Carnival 2014 has ended,” Winter said.

Winter noted that he has “new” priorities, to include his “newborn son” and investments in other aspects of his life and therefore he decided to opt out of one of the sections.

“I am definitely looking forward to taking part in the Groovy Competition this year. I think the Groovy segment has actually become the superior part of the competition as far as quality and the usual suspects like Claudette, Ricardo and Laurena are all in this year and we have a couple new faces like Menace and even Ezzy Rattigan throwing his hat into the Groovy ring, so it should be interesting and I’m always up for the challenge,” Winter stated.
