PM Browne meets with Director General of OECS and the Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua & Barbuda – 17th June, 2014……..Chairman of the OECS Authority, Prime Minister the Honourable Gaston Browne met with Dr. Didacus Jules, Director General of the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Sir Dwight Venner at his office in John’s, Antigua on Monday 16th June 2014.
Prime Minister Browne expressed his enthusiasm for regionalism and the further deepening of integration in the sub-region.
Dr. Jules and Governor Venner briefed Prime Minister Browne on the current regional and economic issues affecting the sub-region, and the current strategy to achieving economic growth for the ECCU countries.
Governor Venner also took the opportunity to update Prime Minister Browne on the banking system in the ECCU.
Prime Minister Browne who is currently Chairman of the OECS Authority until the next sitting of the Authority was updated on priority areas to achieving full implementation of the OECS economic union.
Prime Minister Browne will assume the chairmanship of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on July 1st 2014.
The Thirty-Fifth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM is scheduled for 4th-6th July 2014, in Antigua.
