Major Chinese Businesses Express Interest in Antigua and Barbuda
SHANDONG, People’s Republic of China – August 31, 2014……Over twelve major conglomerates in the People’s Republic of China have expressed interest in doing business in Antigua and Barbuda.
During a meeting here on Saturday, Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne told a group of CEO’s and Presidents of corporations attached to the Department of Commerce of Shandong Province that Antigua and Barbuda is part of a network of trade agreements that allow goods to enter the European Union, Canada and the United States.
“Antigua and Barbuda has a stable investment environment. When you invest in our country there is no need to worry about a fall in the value of your products, in fact value will increase instead. Investing in Antigua and Barbuda is also a gateway to other markets within Latin America and the Caribbean. I urge you to capitalize on investing in a country that is poised to become the economic powerhouse of the Caribbean,” Prime Minister Browne told the business executives.
Deputy Director-General of Shandong Department of Commerce, Mr. Yan Zhaowan said that they were impressed with the presentations and the economic possibilities. He noted that his division sees the possibility of investing in tourism, ICT’s, agriculture and manufacturing and sees great value to future collaboration.
Some of the companies, which are in the top one hundred of companies in China, which expressed interest in doing business in Antigua and Barbuda include the Shandong Linuo Paradigma Co. Ltd, SEPCO1 Electric Power Construction Corporation and Shandong Auhua Clean Energy Co. Ltd.
The Shandong Linuo Paradigma Co. Ltd.,is a world famous professional solar thermal application manufacturer and brand operator with two production operations in Jinan and Shanghai China and two overseas production bases in Cuba and Korea. The company produces over five million sets of solar water heaters and five million square metres of solar collectors annually.
SEPCO1 contracts engineering projects of power engineering such as those of thermal power, nuclear power, wind power, gas turbine power, biomass, photovoltaic power, transmission line and substations. Its business also covers the fields of infrastructure, overhaul and operational maintenance of power plants, commissioning and operation, equipment development and trade logistics. SEPTCO1 is viewed as the “Iron Army of Electric Power Construction” in China.
The companies have indicated to Prime Minister Browne that they will be putting together teams within the coming weeks to visit Antigua and Barbuda to engage in further discussions with government.
Following the business meeting, Prime Minister Browne met with Secretary of the CPC Shandon Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Shandong Provincial People’s Congress the Honourable Jiang Yikang and held discussions on further cooperation with officials in Shandong.
Secretary Jiang said that China views Antigua and Barbuda as a very good friend, and the Prime Minister’s visit, his first as head of government, is an indication of the high level of the friendship. He outlined that his administration is prepared to enhance cooperation in Agriculture, energy, tourism, education, affordable housing, port construction and other areas.
Prime Minister Browne outlined that his government also views China as a good friend that has supported Antigua and Barbuda’s development over the years. He said that his government aims at emulating China’s economic policies which benefits the people, lifting them out of poverty.
Prime Minister Browne, who is also CARICOM Chairman also pledged to use his position to strengthen trade, economic and political relations with China within the region.
