Gaston Browne Media Release On Swearing-in ceremony ARG
Prime Minister, the Honourable Gaston Browne, is extending an invitation to the people of Antigua and Barbuda to join him and his Cabinet at the Antigua Recreation Grounds at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, June 18 2014 for the swearing-in ceremony of his Cabinet.
On Friday, June 13 2014, the day following the victory of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) at the polls, a ceremony was held at the Government House where the Prime Minister and his Attorney General were sworn-in. On the weekend following that ceremony, the Prime Minister selected a Cabinet of Ministers and, on his first working day, communicated his decision to the Governor General. The Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda commands the swearing-in of Cabinet Members by the Governor General.
A decision was taken to hold the event at the oldest, most historic public forum in Antigua: The Antigua Recreation Grounds. The Prime Minister took into account the large number of people who would wish to be present during the historic ceremony when the new Ministers of Government will receive their instruments, authorizing them to become the new managers of the business of the Antigua and Barbuda people. The Prime Minister is the Minister of Corporate Governance.
Three additional CARICOM Prime Ministers will be present at the ceremony on Wednesday afternoon, at the Antigua Recreation Grounds. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt of Dominica will be present and will give remarks. Prime Minister Keith Mitchell of Grenada will also join in the celebration and will also be addressing the thousands of residents and nationals who are expected to come out on Wednesday afternoon.
Also in attendance on Wednesday afternoon, June 18 2014, will be Prime Minister Denzel Douglas of St. Kitts and Nevis. Our closest independent neighbour will be travelling with a five-person delegation from Basseterre. That delegation will include his Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the young St. Kitts and Nevis Minister who addressed the ABLP Convention three Sundays past.
A cultural program is planned to include the Hells Gate Steelband, National Youth Choir of Antigua & Barbuda, the Antigua Dance Academy, the Antigua Creative Dance Theater, Claudette ‘CP’ Peters, Ungku and other entertainment. The function is open to the public.
All are invited to witness the peaceful change of government that has taken place since the June 12 general elections, by coming to the Antigua Recreation Grounds on Wednesday, June 18 2014, commencing at 4:00 pm.
