Consulate-General in Toronto receives donation
TORONTO, Canada – September 1, 2014…….The Consulate-General of Antigua and Barbuda in Toronto, has received a donation of gently used mobility aids valued at approximately Canadian $8,500.00.
The donation was made possible by Mr. Krishendath Roopnarine and Mrs. Dhanmatie Roopnarine, members of the Trinidad and Tobago diaspora living in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). In presenting the items to Ms. Ann-Marie Layne, Consul-General of Antigua and Barbuda in Toronto, Mr Roopnarine noted that his goal is to help disadvantaged persons living in the Caribbean. “I am delighted to partner with the Consulate-General of Antigua and Barbuda in Toronto, to make these items available to the people of Antigua and Barbuda.”
In accepting the donation, Consul General Layne noted, “Assisting the people of Antigua and Barbuda is one of the mandates of the Consulate-General, and developing partnerships such as the one that we have established with Mr and Mrs. Roopnarine allows us to fulfil this mandate. This will not be a one-off exercise and we are already exploring the possibility of receiving another donation before the end of this year,” the Consul-General concluded.
Among the list of items donated are: 11 tilt and fold wheelchairs, 1 motorized wheel chair, six rollator walkers, four walkers, 3 walking cane and two pairs of crutches. The
donation has been earmarked for the Ministry of Health and the Environment and is anticipated to arrive in Antigua and Barbuda shortly.
