China’s Communist Party Congratulates Prime Minister Browne and the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda – 21st June, 2014…… Congratulations continue to be received by Antigua and Barbuda’s newly-elected Prime Minister on his resounding electoral victory of Thursday, June 12 2014. The Prime Minister and his political party were congratulated by the dominant political party of the People’s Republic of China—the Chinese Communist Party. The translated letter, dispatched from Beijing to St. John’s, was delivered by the Embassy of China to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Dated June 18 2014, the International Department of the Central Committee wrote to the Antigua and Barbuda political leader, expressing the wish to strengthen the bonds of friendship that have existed between the two political institutions. The Chinese political party also applauded the ABLP for its historical role in bringing development to Antigua and Barbuda.
“The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party is an important force in the Antigua and Barbuda political arena. Over the past years, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party has devoted great efforts in safeguarding state sovereignty, developing its national economy and improving the people’s living standards,” the letter read.
The Honourable Gaston Browne has been a guest of the International Department of the Central Committee, visiting several cities and provinces in China, last August 2013 when he traveled to that great country as Leader of the Opposition. The journey was intended to build strong bridges between the two political parties. The new Prime Minister has been invited to China for a State visit, later this year.
“The People’s Republic of China and Antigua and Barbuda established diplomatic relations since 1983 when Vere Cornwall Bird was the Head of Government,” Prime Minister Browne remarked. “I intend to ensure that the bonds of friendship are strengthened and that this important developmental ally experiences the friendship by actions and not merely words,” the new Prime Minister remarked.
The Chinese Ambassador will be paying courtesy calls on many of the newly-appointed Ministers during the coming week, as he seeks to ensure better relations with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.
