As the destination promotions continue to intensify in North America in preparation for the winter season, the sister island of Barbuda continues to be the “icing shot” of the twin island package.

This dream destination, which features “remoteness” and “seclusion” as two of its unique selling points, recently received a nod of approval from two major publications and continues to get significant exposure throughout North America. While Travel and Leisure Magazine recognizes Barbuda as one of the most romantic destinations in the world, Metro News in Vancouver describes Barbuda as a celebrity favourite.

Often cited as the “seventh least known destination in the world”, Barbuda was ranked among the top 10 Romantic island getaways from the Caribbean to the South Pacific that to help start or stoke the flame, in a recent listing issued by Travel and Leisure Magazine.

The article features some of the greatest dream destinations and romantic hot spots, including the all-out luxury or sand-between-the-toes casual that appeal to new couples just getting to know each other, or the more mature couple celebrating a milestone anniversary.

Barbuda is described as: “If your idea of Eden is unpaved roads, truly deserted beaches, and nary a nightclub, this 68-square-mile island in the Eastern Caribbean is for you….. Take a boat trip to the Frigate Bird Sanctuary on a lagoon in the island’s northwest and ogle the 5,000 namesake birds that call it home.”

Meanwhile, further up the North American coast, the Metro News in Vancouver cited the destination as a “favorite celebrity winter travel destination.” Barbuda is described as “Tiny and terrific, this small island (a fa­vor­ite of the late Princess Diana) off the coast of Antigua is like Disney World for bird enthusiasts.

The Frigate Bird Sanctuary, accessible only by boat, is one of only a few places in the world where you can spot the frigate bird—an orgiastic event, I’m told, for feather-heads.”

General Manager Mohammed Sallah of the Lighthouse Bay, one of the two properties in Barbuda, welcomes these recent endorsements of the destination. “This exposure comes at an opportune time as we prepare for the upcoming season.

We are doing some renovations and intensifying our marketing efforts to ensure that we are well positioned to reap the dividends of this type of exposure," he said. Sallah is very optimistic about the upcoming season and wants to continue to work very closely with the overseas offices in the USA and Canada to ensure that Barbuda gets on the world map.
