When you work in the kitchen, you seldom get a chance to interact with the guests, much less receive their commendations. But as they say, to every rule there is an exception.

That was the case with Orlan Burton, the latest to be named Employee-of-the-Month (for June) at the Halcyon Cove by Rex Resorts.

Burton, a commis 1, has the chance to display his winning personality as he serves them breakfast.

“I’m on the front line, so I interact with the guests,” he said. “I speak to them; ask them where they are from, if they like Antigua and always make jokes with them.”

Burton, who shares the award with Yvette Joseph, a front office employee, said his award is testament to his dedication to duty.

“I feel good about being named Employee-of-the-Month,” said the seven-year Halcyon employee. “I like going the extra mile.”

He said the resort has been favourable.
