Little Fryes Beach

Fryes-Bay-from-Dennys-RestaurantSummer is here again.  Although the beach is always the place to be for most of us in the Caribbean, the number of persons in search of sea, sand and sun increases exponentially at this time of the year.

And for those of us who are parents or are caretakers of children, one of our major concerns is usually safety and as a result usually head for those beaches where the water is calm and shallow and the sand is nice and clear and we are able to keep a good eye on the kids.

Of the 365 beautiful beaches that we boast here in Antigua, one of my favorites that meet this exact criteria is what we local call ‘Little Fryes’.

It is located on the western side of the island and a footstep north of the renowned Fryes Beach.  It is the perfect spot dip, pick-nick, or play with young children who may not be master swimmers as yet. Or you can always let them loose and contemplate your own serenity.Fryes-Beach

For the adults who don’t have to babysit, they can indulge in sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling or other water sports and activities.  For those of us who do, just remember that while ensuring that the children have unforgettable summer days at the beach, safety comes first so put their sunblock on and supervise them closely.

At Little Fryes, similar to ‘Big’ Fryes or Fryes beach proper, the sand is powder white and the alluring turquoise water is crystal clear.

When it is nice and clear, as it will be most of the summer, one can enjoy the views of neighboring Montserrat. And when you get tired from the gazing, you can treat the children to lunch at Dennis Cocktail Bar and Restaurant, located smacked in the middle of Little Fryes and Big Fryes.

Just like Fryes Beach, Little Fryes is one of Antigua’s most breathtaking beaches.  So for the summer, pack up the beach balls, the buckets and shovel, the beach chairs…

Don’t forget the kids, head straight there, find a cool spot under a coconut tree, let the children play, sit for hours, enjoy the sea breeze and the water washing up between your toes, dream of peace and quiet, but don’t forget to watch the children!
