Fort James Beach, located on the north-west coast of Antigua near historical Fort James, is the closest beach to St. John’s City. It is only 5 to 10 minutes drive away, and is by far one of the most popular beaches in the country. People from all walks of life, locals and tourists alike go to Fort James Beach for a wide range of reasons, form sea-bathing, jogging, exercise, sports, lunch, parties, weddings, baptisms, and more.
On one end of the beach is “Millers By The Sea”, and on the other end is “Russell’s Bar and Restaurant. Both provide breakfast lunch and inner and are open on almost every day of the week with live evening entertainment. In between, are at least two other small beach bars providing local tasty delights and drinks.
On most public holidays, like Easter Monday, Good Friday. Labor Day, and Whit, if its fun and excitement you are looking for, Fort James Beach is the place to find it. Other than that, you can go at any time, pick a tree or a spot, and enjoy the sea breeze.
The beach gets its name from the historical Fort – Fort James, which is the only fort on the island with all its guns still in place. And, as an historical site, the area tends to become busy especially when a cruise ship is in port. For the most part, Fort James Beach is like any other beach in Antigua, usually tranquil and perfect for fun and relaxation by all members of the family.
