Tourism officials in the US are abuzz with their latest coup, touting intensive promotional activity as the stimulus for Barbuda's Pink Sand Beach being named in the weekend edition of The New York Times Travel Section among “6 Caribbean Beaches to See Before you Die.”
The piece, although alluding to Antigua's 365 beaches as "tourist trampled," describes the western shore of Barbuda as "the tropical equivalent of the Champs-Élysées.” The article also recognizes this stretch of beach for its incomparable dimensions - 17 miles long and 11 miles wide.
Derede Samuel Whitlock, Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism director in the US, said the article is very timely for the destination, as the caption is certainly an engaging way to get readers’ attention, and will help reinforce some of the destination’s unique attributes. Whitlock said,

The beaches of Antiuga are not "Tourist Trampled" there are at the most 5-10 beaches in Antigua where you can find an abundance of tourist and I'm being very liberal out of 365. The writer of the story did a ** poor job researching the article......Yo u want to see a "Tourist Trampled" beach visit Aruba. Where you will inhale some diesel water from boats as you take a swim outside most of the hotels on the island.....
