Information Ministry Highlights Accomplishments

Minister Dr Edmond MansoorAntigua St John's - Minister of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Science, and Technology Dr Edmond Mansoor has reflected on his ministry's accomplishments during the eighth anniversary of the United Progressive Party (UPP) administration.

Under Dr Mansoor’s leadership and initiatives, he said Antigua & Barbuda is now securely positioned as the third leading country in information technology in the Caribbean and Central America.

Among the major initiatives undertaken by his Ministry, Dr Mansoor cited the landing of the fibre optic cable system. This system powers the operations of central government, Mount St John’s Medical Centre, and the majority of the community access centers (CACs).

Over 30 CACs have been built throughout the country, and 1,600 laptops have been provided to primary and secondary school teachers registered with the Ministry of Education.

Additionally, the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Science, and Technology was able to open up the cable TV market in the island, ending a decade-long monopoly. The ministry also has increased the “penetration of mobile phones in Antigua & Barbuda society in excess of 125 percent”.

In respect to new initiatives to be undertaken by the ministry, Dr Mansoor spoke of a new project called the “Connect Antigua & Barbuda Biz,” in partnership with APUA, being launched on Thursday, March 15.

Connect Antigua and Barbuda Biz is a multi-faceted, revolutionary ICT platform that will move small and micro-businesses forward in an environment without boundaries.

Dr Mansoor also hinted of a major project about to come on stream that will eclipse all prior projects in the scope of positioning Antigua & Barbuda and its citizens as First World citizens. He said it will be the “single most revolutionary ICT project in the hemisphere”.

You take your medication today? You need to apologise for your VC BIRD insult! Back home in Syria you see how Assad treat people who protest against him? Could you go to Syria and make that remark about Assad and still be walking high and mighty?

@JP Farnsworth,

How about using Information Technology(IT) to optimize government operations. This will free-up human resources that are doing manual rudimentary jobs. Use the freed resources to focus and enhance Tourism and attract international investment. When Tourism has increased and international investments has increased; it is feasible to reduce government payroll without increasing unemployment. At the end of the day you will have a smaller government, optimized efficient government, and a larger private sector. If Mansoor things he is a THOUGHT-LEADER for taking TAX-PAYER money and buying 1500 computers... Mansoor is a JOKE.

Is Mansoor taking credit for people purchasing cell phones?

Then he takes us for the biggest morons when he finishes with this ...

Dr Mansoor also hinted of a major project about to come on stream that will eclipse all prior projects in the scope of positioning Antigua & Barbuda and its citizens as First World citizens. He said it will be the “single most revolutionary ICT project in the hemisphere” ...

Do you see how he thinks we the people are dumb and fooly ... He is saying he is gonna do something bigger for the people than us getting Independance. Because last time I checked that would be the thing that positioned us the most to be "First World Citizens" ... And then I guess he is gonna introduce a new 6G or 7G network or some new kind of cyber space because he is not only gonna do the biggest ICT project ever in Antigua & Barbuda but "THE WHOLE HEMISPHERE"!!!

You see why he wants the Birds to be in the "dust-bin of history" ... he wants to go down as the single most important man to ICT in Antigua & Barbuda!!! But he wants to fools us to believe so and not actually do it!!!

I have been asking for years now (since Mansoor spent $2million to put computers on busses) how much does all these computer acces centers and computers that they are purchasing cost? Who do they purchase them from? And are these things going to tender? When I was in Canada anytime the government doing something the first thing the media would ask is "how much will tax payers pay?" We can't know the value of a project unless we the people know WHAT IT COSTS!!!

Godd first steps. Change in focus needed

I will commend the ministry on rolling out a competitive IT infrastructure in the nation. However, "125% cell phone penetration" by itself will simply enslave us to foreign technologies. What good is all this access to technology if all we use it for is to play games and socially network. This is always the problem with adopting foreign technologies before the local mentality has matured to a matching level.

The ministry now needs to focus on creating a culture of invention and production. We need to switch from a consumer to producer mentality. We should not strive to be "first world citizens" but first world innovators and inventors.

Looks like CM poster has a problem with providing tools for education. Acutally looks like no matter what someone does you will find fault with it. Okay big shot you put down everything he did, tell us what you would have done that was better?
Actually I am surprised you figured out how to get here and write your dribble, maybe you used a computer at the CAC?

What a clown. Doing work on behalf of "the people" and treating "the people" like children. "I have a surprise for you...you will like... but I can't say...its a revolutionary ICT project. It is big... I am using your money... spending it on what I like... But I can't tell you what it is... but you will like it..." Give me a break ... you ixiot failure... Mansoor has proven that he is a failure in the xexical Field.... as a politician ... and as a thought leader in IT... when you claim, in 2012, that your MAJOR accomplishment is to provide computers to teachers... with tax payers money... you are A FAILURE.... go home Mansoor... go home UPP....
