Antigua St John's - Caribarena's Flight Arrival and Departure system was upgraded on December 11 by Smartnet Ltd. The new Flight Information Displays offer an airport-like presentation of flights that are due to arrive and depart at VC Bird International Airport.
This service is provided by Smartnet Ltd, which also offer the service to airports and hotels that wish to display flight information screens. Smartnet's service is currently being used by a company named Landing Flight, which operates in Nevada. Landing Flight Nevada can be seen at http://www.landingflightnv.com/
Caribarena and Landing Flight are working together to bring a new service to the Caribbean that will allow visitors to see flight information in any Caribbean airport. This project is expected to launch in mid-January.
The Flight Information Displays offer a very simple and yet comprehensive rendering of flight information. When a flight lands, it is highlighted in green.
When a flight is delayed, the system calculates the difference between the scheduled time and the actual time, and displays the delay in an orange highlight.
If a flight is cancelled, it is completely highlighted in red, making it easy to spot. This colour-coding system helps users quickly and easily navigate the Flight Information Display using colour associations they are already familiar with.

Embracing Opportunities
Quote: Go to the VCBI airport and check the flight boards. None exists in electronic form. CAL & LIAT are shamefully MIA. Here is a homegrown application. Will LIAT avail itself to this Innovation & Technology? Can The Airport Authority Improve its Customer Service. Will the Hon Min of Tourism & Aviation embrace this local Information Technology Initiative to provide a better face to visitors and the Natives? Quote:As in Optimist Mas, May Heaven Help LIAT and The Nation Of Antigua & Barbuda.
