Antigua St John's - The Regattas Bowl began on January 28 with two days of qualifying rounds. The ITF/COTECC team began play on January 30, with mixed results coming from the team of four.
The boys played amazing first matches with a lion's fight, according to coach John Goede.
Atilio Flores won in three sets, and although injured, Eduardo Comacho fought to win the first set, but this was not to be his day. This after a 6.3 earthquake which hit the nation of Peru.
D’Jeri Raymond, the sole competitor from the English-speaking Caribbean, lost in her first round match to Ariana Rodriguez of Ecuador 1-6, 1-6; Ariana eventually losing to the #1 seed in the semi-finals. Daniela won first round in two sets. According to coach Goede, "50% win in score, 100% win in fight".
As the week's matches progressed, Atilio Flores contested his round 2 match, falling the a top-ranked player from Colombia losing 4-6 6-7(5). Daneila Obando played a three-set thriller against the Peruvian wall, losing after 3+ hours 7-5, 3-6, 1-6.
Round 1 doubles matches brought much success for both ITF/COTECC boys and girls. Doubles team Raymond/Obando defeated the Peruvian team Almundena Boza & Marcielo Sicha 6-0, 6-2; losing in round 2 to the #4 seed Judith Rolon (PAR)/ Maria Paula Torres (PER) 2-6, 2-6.
