Golfers in the International Women’s Club Golf for Education Tournament get a bonus this year – the opportunity to win two round-trip tickets to London on Virgin Atlantic in a raffle that will be held just for the participating golfers. The annual tournament will be held at the Cedar Valley Golf Course on November 19 beginning at 9 am. Proceeds from the day benefit the IWC’s scholarship programme, where grants totalling up to $40,000 for tertiary education are distributed to Antiguan and Barbudan women each year. Since 1998, the club has awarded 130 scholarships totalling over $400,000.
After golfers have completed 18 holes and return to the clubhouse, they will each receive a glass of champagne with a number on it from representatives of Virgin Atlantic. When all glasses are distributed, a raffle will be held, pulling a number at random. The holder of the number matching the one pulled will receive the two airline tickets. These two tickets are excluding transportation taxes, which will have to be paid by the winner.
In the fundraising auction to be held after lunch, Virgin Atlantic has also donated two round-trip all-inclusive tickets to London. Other auction items include dinners for two at Bay House, Pepperz & Lime, Curtain Bluff and Café Bambula, golf at the Royal St Kitts Golf Course and day passes at Sandals.
The format for the tournament is a Scramble off 18 holes with four-person teams. The entry fees are $200 per golfer, and include cart fees, lunch, drinks, snacks and a gift bag. Prizes will be given for Team First Gross, Team First Net, Nearest Pins, and Longest Drives in several categories. IWC non-golfing members, along with the general public, can attend the lunch and auction for a fee of $60.
Caribbean Union Bank and Virgin Atlantic are headline sponsors, and among the hole sponsors Agile Courts, Waterscaping, Caribbean Helicopters, Stingray City, Annette’s Orchids, The Pitch, Pet Suites, Island Provisions, Anjo Insurance, Blue Waters, Pepperz & Lime, Automotive Arts, Sign Pro, Extreme Fitness, Lipstick and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
A sign-up sheet has been placed at the Cedar Valley Golf Course clubhouse. For more information or to submit fees in advance, contact Cath White at 561-4733 or 785-3993.
