Antigua & Barbuda was successful on the final day of the Coco Cola LCA Jr. Tournament with Jody Maginley (ANU) and Alex Rybakov (USA) taking the boys U18 doubles title by defeating the #1 seeded doubles team Yanikk James (GRE)/Luke Jacob Gamble (USA) 6-3, 6-4.
“This is the second such title for Maginley at the ITF level and we trust that Jody like all our athletes will continue to make strides in a sport they so dearly love,” the Antigua & Barbuda Tennis Association (ABTA) stated in a release.
Congratulations are also in order for the other Antiguan athletes who showed promise in their quest for the Under 14 and Under 18 singles and doubles titles at the just concluded ITF tournament in St. Lucia.
They are:
Cordell Williams Jr - U14 singles consolation winner;
Jessica Issac - U14 singles finalist and doubles winner;
D'Jeri Raymond - U18 doubles quarterfinalist; and
Shakir Elvin - U18 doubles semifinalist.
Team Antigua & Barbuda now moves on to the St. Vincent & the Grenadines ITF Jr. tournament which commenced Sunday with the round robin qualifiers for the U14 players and U18 qualifiers.
