Antigua and Barbuda's Daniel "Bakka" Bailey, who thrust Antigua and Barbuda into the world of global competitive sprinting when he placed fourth at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, failed to qualify for the Olympic finals in 100m sprinting which took place yesterday.
On August 4th, Bailey placed 2nd in the fourth heat, loosing only to Jamaican Olympic Champion Usain Bolt. Bailey had a time of 10.12, while Bolt finished with 10.09.
Yesterday, Bailey ran in the 2nd heat, but could not hold his own against the other sprinters, finishing 6th in the heat, and failing to qualify for the finals. His time on this race was 10.16, while Bolt had stepped up to 9.87.
In the finals, which also took place yesterday, Reigning Champion Usain Bolt boldly secured his title, with what many called a "legendary" performance. Bolt clocked a time of 9.63, almost reaching his world record 9.58 set in 2009 at Berlin.
Meanwhile, Antiguan and Barbudan sprinter Brendan Christian is set to compete in the Men's 200m sprinting Round 1, which takes place tomorrow.
Christian will also have to face Champion Usain Bolt, as well as Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake, who won the silver medal in yesterday's 100m sprint.
