Antigua St John's - The Antigua & Barbuda National Athletics Championships came off with a bang at the YASCO Sports Complex on Sunday, with the highlight of event being National Sprint Champion Ambassador Daniel “Bakka” Bailey winning gold in the 100 metre race.
Association President Dr. Rodney Williams said his organisation will be seeking to increase the number of field events for next year's championships meet, which is expected to be extended to two days.
Even though he was impressed with the smooth flow of the events and congratulated all the winners, Dr Williams expressed disappointment with the low number of participating females.
This was regrettable since the athletic association has been working hard to develop a strategy to increase the number of females involved in track and field.
The president also commended the organizing committee, sponsors, officials and athletes for playing their part in making the 2012 championships a success. He concluded that he was looking forward to a bigger and better meet next year.
