One Week left in ABBA top league

Braves_playersAntigua St John's - With one week to go before the playoffs in the Antigua & Barbuda Basketball Association Division 1, teams are jockeying for position for the post season.

On Sunday, Yorks Crushers ran over Coast Outlaws taking them down 75-66 in the feature game of a double header at the JSC Sports complex.

National team utility player Mario “Axel” Davis, averaging a double-double for the season led the Crushers with 17 points and as many rebounds.l Rodney John chipped in with 15 points and 14 boards.



For Outlaws Russell Daley league leader in assists had 19 points and eight steals despite the loss.

Daley is a top candidate for MVP being in the top ten in points, steals and assists, and the best assist man in the competition.

Raymond Dickenson had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the losers.

Crushers moved to the top of the standings tied with three other teams with eight wins and two losses for the regular season, about to end this week.

Crushers enjoy similar overall stats with Big Banana Express and New Thriving Roots, all with eight wins and two defeats heading into the final week.

In game one on Sunday Hawks flew past Akhimo 92-69 despite Kenroy “Moody” James coming out of retirement for Akhimo.

A former national team player, James demonstrated that he still had game with 16 points and seven rebounds in the loss.apo
Keroi Lee, the league leader in points and rebounds averaging 25 points and 21 rebounds a game and certainly the best candidate for MVP had a double/double but was below average.

Lee had 19 points and 16 rebounds.

Point guard Jason Landon had 19 points and four assists with Ishan Peets dropping 20 points and two rebounds for the winners.

On Saturday, in the Grays Green derby, Express fell to Baldwin Braves in a game that Express led by ten points in the third quarter until Braves went wild to win 85-7.

The Braves had six players in double figures including Vivian “Boast” Destine fresh from pro league in Dominican Republic with 14 points and six steals.

Veteran Edlawn “Cat” Barton (11), Damien Floyd (15), Nechus Jones (11), Jerome Andrew (10) and Conrad Francis (10) supported Destine to take bragging rights into Gray's Farm.

For Express, only three players got into double figures scoring with Xavier “X-man” Meade leading the way with 24 points and ten rebounds.

George Francis had 19 points and six rebounds while Lindsay McDonald added ten points and four boards.



In the first game, a buzzer beater, Roots edged out Yogi Warriors 77-76.

Terry Roberts got the go ahead basket, a coast to coast layup after the Warriors missed the opportunity to go up by three from the free throw line.

Roberts finished with 20 points and 19 rebounds with Bernard Andrew adding eleven points and eight boards.

For the Warriors, winless for the season Charles Baltimore dropped 25 points and swiped four rebounds while Ikali Grayman added 24 points and pulled down 11 boards in a losing cause..

Joel Joseph chipped in with 10 points.

The league continues this weekend before the start of the playoffs the following week.
