Antigua St John's - The finals of the Under 14 competition were completed today.
In the Girls Under 14 finals, #1 seed D'Jeri Raymond fell short of taking the singles title. Raymond was defeated by the #2 seed, Martie Eugenie Sime of France 3-6, 2-6.
In the boys Under 14 consolation finals, #2 seed Cordell Williams Jr dominated, taking down the #1 seed Richard Akcayli of Barbados 5-4 (7-3 tie break) 4-2
In the girls' doubles competition, Raymond was able to repeat her doubles of 2011. Raymond, teaming up with Anouk Ma AJong of Suriname, was able to dominate Sime (FRA) & Ashley Granieri (USA) 4-6, 6-2 (10-7)
While the U14 competition is completed, the Under 18s will continue to do battle until Saturday.
Team Antigua moves on to Trinidad on Friday, where Jody Maginley and Shakir Elvin will contest the U18s.
The tennis association thanked everyone who helped the athletes, including ABI Bank for its unwavering support of D'Jeri Raymond, and Christopher & Gonalves Chambers and West Indies Oil Company, who assisted Shakir Elvin. It also thanked family and friends who also supported them and Jevannie Ambrose and Cordell Williams Jr.
A release said, "Congratulations to all our athletes. You did a great job, and as you continue to develop, we are sure it will be evident in your game."
