Barbados Junior Tennis Results

TennisAntigua St John's - Results coming out of Barbados on day one of the Barbados Junior international showed another day of mixed results for the Antiguan team.

Jevannie Ambrose lost to James Stevenson (LCA) 3-6, 3-6, but did not give up. Teaming up with country mate Cordell Williams Jr in the doubles draw, they easily took down the all-Bajan team of Nicholas Charles/Asher Wiltshire 6-3, 6-3.

The ABTA continues to encourage our Antiguan competitors; still to come are matches by Kyle Joseph, Cordell Williams Jr, and D'Jeri Raymond.

The last day of qualifiers had also proved to be a day of mixed results. In the U18 boys' 2nd round qualifiers, both Maginley and Elvin failed to make the cut for a position in the singles main draw. Maginley fell to Francesco Migliano of Italy 6-4, 6-3, while Elvin too was ousted by Shaquille Tayler (BAH) 6-0, 6-3.

In the U14 Round Robin qualifiers, there was a tie in the girls' competition. Number one seed, D’ Jeri Raymond was successful in this feat, giving her another day's rest before playing her first main draw match.

The final round of the boys' qualifiers likewise saw mixed results for Team Antigua. Cordell Williams Jr was taken down by Joshua Worme of Barbados 5-3, 4-1, causing him to fall short of making it to the single's main draw. Williams is the No 2 seed in the consolation draw, a position which also earned him a rest day.

Jevannie Ambrose, though failing to win his round two qualifying match, took his round three match in straight sets, defeating Jadon Brome (BAR) 4-0, 4-0 and securing his position in the singles main draw.

Main draw play starts today for both singles and doubles.  As play continues at the Barbados junior international, the association wished the group the very best. It also thanked sponsors ABI Bank, West Indies Oil Company, Christopher & Gonsalves Chambers, family, friends, the Ministry of Sports, and Coach Cordell Williams, who ably prepared them.
