tennis-players-leave-for-regional-tournamentsAntigua St John's - The Antigua & Barbuda Tennis Association has announced that four of its Antigua-based junior tennis players will be contesting the first of three regional International Tennis Federation grade four tournaments:

Barbados Junior International, Trinidad ITF Junior Circuit 2012, and Copa Sultana in Puerto Rico - March 23 to April 13.Shakir Elvin, the only U 18 player, will be trying to earn his first ITF ranking points.

Elvin will battle through this weekend’s qualifiers to earn a position in the tournament's main draw scheduled to start on Monday March 26, 2011. Cordell Williams Jr and Jevannie Ambrose will be competing in the U14 boys competition, while the lone female, D’Jeri Raymond, will be contesting the girls U14 competition.

Also competing in two of the three tournament are our US-based players, Kyle Joseph and Jody Maginley, who will also be flying the Antigua & Barbuda flag. Both Joseph and Maginley
are coming off tour in South Africa playing grade two tournaments.

Playing these tournaments would not have been possible for the juniors without family and corporate support. Raymond thanked ABI Bank Limited and its marketing team for being a part of her developmental process by covering tournament expenses.

Jevannie Ambrose and Cordell Williams would like to thank all who have supported them in covering their tournament expenses. Shakir Elvin thanked West Indies Oil Company and Christopher and Gonsalves Chambers for assisting with his tournament expenses. The association thanked Williams, who will be chaperon to these juniors.

The association said, "The quality of play that these players have shown at practice puts them in a very good position to compete with the tournaments' best."
