Antigua St John's - The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association plans to recognise former National Cycling Champion Robert Peters on Sunday, March 18.
The Annual Robert Peters Race Day, sponsored by Lucozade, is the initiative of ABACA Honorary Member Tony Armstrong, an avid cyclist and the sponsor and founder of the Lucozade local and regional cycling club that Peters started in the 90s. The event started four years ago, but took a break last year to make room for the OCES Cycling Championships.
This year’s event is expected to be bigger and better, starting with an exciting three-mile Individual Time Trial at 9 am from the top of Horsford Hill in Falmouth Village to the top of Shirley Heights. Jyme Bridges set a record time in 2010 of 10:59, and is expected to defend his title on Sunday.
The action then moves to the Pan Am Base Circuit, a known training ground for Peters in his cycling era. The second stage of Robert Peters Race Day will start at 2:30 pm at the picnic atmosphere race circuit.
