Antigua St John's - Old Road Under 17s and Empire’s Under 14s and Under 12s won their respective age groups in the first Mini-Soccer Fest on Sunday at the Buckleys School playing field, organised by the Young Warriors Football Club.
Old Road won their three matches, defeating Willikies 2-0; Young Warriors 5-1, and Seaglans 5-2 in the four-team contest. Roy Yorks, who scored four goals, was the leading goal-scorer and adjudged the most valuable player of the U17 category.
Empire U14s defeated Seaglans 2-0 and Young Warriors 3-2 in the three-team competition. Rodney Lawrence was named Empire’s best player, while Warriors’ Derijah Prince was the leading marksman with four strikes.
The U12 Gray's Farm boys triumphed over Young Warriors 1-0 before overcoming Young Germans 2-0. Rasheed Lewis of Empire was named the best player.
There were also two exhibition female matches in which Young Warriors U17 girls were defeated 4-0 by Empire U14 boys, but the G-Warriors bounced back to defeat Seaglans U14 mixed team 2-1 on penalties after the match ended 1-1.
