Antigua St John's - The minister, heads of departments, and staff of the Ministry of National Security and Labour kicked off activities aimed at fostering camaraderie on March 17 at the Johnson’s Village playing field.
The sporting activities, which started with two spirited football matches, will include netball, basketball, dominoes, and cricket. A church service, walk-a-ton and fun day will take place in June, when the ministry will celebrate a week of activities.
Saturday’s games were seven-a-side football matches, which took place after a short opening ceremony. Minister Dr L Errol Cort said the preliminary games were a way for the members of the “young ministry” to interact with each other outside of the work environment.
The Ministry of National Security & Labour was formed after the 2009 general elections and includes the immigration department, police, ABDF, prison, Passport Office, and Labour Department, and is headquartered on the corner of Long and Thames Streets.
In the first football match, the prison officers “jailed” the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force team one goal to nil. In the second match, the Royal Police Force beat the Immigration Department two nil.
