Antigua St John's - The Ministry of Tourism has welcomed the Kent County Cricket Club to Antigua & Barbuda. Minister of Tourism, John Maginley, in an effort to market Antigua & Barbuda as a sporting events destination, sent Sports Tourism Officer Karen Joseph and Sir Vivian Richards to London last year to promote the destination to prospective schools and sports clubs.
The 20 members of Kent County Team arrived on March 7 on Virgin Atlantic at VC Bird International Airport.
Minister Maginley said he is very pleased that Kent is the first county team that is using the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds for pre-season training, and officially welcomed the players and management to Antigua & Barbuda.
“We look forward to many more cricket teams using the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and Antigua & Barbuda for training,” the minister said.
The team is led by former West Indies cricketer Jimmy Adams, no stranger to Antigua & Barbuda.
