Antigua St John's - Of all the things Sir Vivian Richards could have done on the day of his 60th birthday, the former West Indies Test captain stayed at home to advocate breast cancer awareness.
“I did not think twice on the choice of the charity,” Richards said. “We came together to choose the charity, and as soon as someone suggested Breast Friends, I immediately agreed, because this is very important.”
Along with Sir Vivian were four other knights - Sir Ian Botham of England, Sir Richard Hadlee of New Zealand, and Sir Garfield Sobers and Sir Everton Weekes of Barbados.
Sir Vivian teamed up with Sir Botham, Sir Richard, and Sir Garfield to compete in a Texan scramble golf tournament at Cedar Valley Golf Club.
A number of Sir Vivian’s friends, including former West Indies Test players, came to Antigua to celebrate with “The Great One”.
Former Test players Wes Hall, Brian Lara, Michael Holding, Joel Garner, and Tony Jacks of Australia were at Cedar Valley, along with Sir Vivian’s children, and members of Breast Friends.

Any young cricketer who reads Viv's story or is inspired by what he did and how he did it may very well learn a great deal from him.
I think it is unfair some of the demands we make on some people.
The fact that he, like Andy Roberts, were in the trenches fighting the wars and putting Antigua's name out there in a good light is enough for me.
It is up to the people who run cricket in this country to do meaningful things to develop the sport.
Give a soldier a chance to rest from the war, he has more than done enough.
