Antigua St John's - Five teams will be vying for the Inet Kenny Benjamin U13 trophy on February 5 at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds. One new team from Piggotts will join Young Masters, All Saints, and Bethesda as they aim to beat defending champions Liberta.
For Kenny Benjamin, coach and former West Indies fast bowler, the matches are more than about who wins or loses.
He said, “After an intense weekend of learning new skills and having sessions with former professional cricketers, the matches will give the youngsters an opportunity to have fun and at the same time put into practice some of the team building exercises they have learnt.”
Benjamin added that he wants adults, as well as other youngsters from each community, to come out and support their teams. “Playing at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds is a great honour for any cricketer, and for these youngsters what would be better than to be cheered by 100s of fans from their community?
"When I was growing up, youth matches were as well attended as adult matches, and I learnt from the adults who supported me. I want the same for our youngsters," he said.
