Shoul The Best What

Shoul The Best What?Dear Editor, as I was walking past the Mount St. John's Medical Center, and I noticed a sign that said that Ambassador Shoul was the "Best Performed Ambassador of the Year 2011".

To me, this was very strange. The only truly significant thing that the ambassador has done with China is the Power Plant. I think it is fair to say that the Chinese Power Plant is embroiled in too much controversy to give anyone honorable recognition over.

Shoul especially has a lot to answer for, such as why the Loan was in RMB, a currency which will continue to increase against the US dollar like it has been doing for almost 20 years, raising the amount we have to pay back without getting more value.

And while I don't want to go too deeply into why this or that, I don't understand why this sign is up there at all. Firstly, we don't have that many Ambassadors that they compete for who is the best performed in each year.

Secondly, If the Government wanted to recognize Shoul's performance, this was not the way to do it. Perhaps if the sign said, "The Government wants to recognize Ambassador Shoul for his role in the Wadadli Power Plant Project", then I could be more sympathetic.

I can only speculate as to why the Government would put this sign up. Is it attempted propaganda? Does the Government want to encourage other officials to learn from Shoul's example? Or do the Government simply lack proper choice of wording?

In any case, I think the sign is inappropriate considering the nature of the Wadadli Power Plant, and the Government should have thought twice before putting it up.

Are you sure it is the Government who put it there ? Under the circumstances the comment may be someone's attempt at sarcastic wit ,since Mr. Shoul is just the opposite in performance.
I do not buy in to the anti foreigner sentiments, Antigua's have prospered my migration to other countries, I think it it were not for the presence of some of these foreign persons Antigua would have a low population and many would never be able to furnish their houses , they were here before Courts and they are cheaper. These immigrants do well because they help each other to grow and prosper this is a lesson Antiguans can learn from them. The negro race I suppose because of slavery do not have that strong sense of family and community we are cursed with selfishness and covetousness, why are we not as prosperous and innovative as they are? They have paid their dues to live here so suck it in. Mr. Shoul was put in a position above his level of competence and failed miserably, and he same can be said of many of his colleagues.

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock. Ghana Calls and Advises: Quote:
The essence of neo-colonialism is that the State which is subject to it is, in theory, independent and has all the outward trappings of international sovereignty. In reality its economic system and thus its political policy is directed from outside. ... More often, however, neo-colonialist control is exercised through economic or monetary means. The neo-colonial State may be obliged to take the manufactured products of the imperialist power to the exclusion of competing products from elsewhere. Control over government policy in the neo-colonial State may be secured by payments towards the cost of running the State, by the provision of civil servants in positions where they can dictate policy, ... It is possible that neo-colonial control may be exercised by a consortium of financial interests which are not specifically identifiable with any particular State. Investment under neo-colonialism increases rather than decreases the gap between the rich and the poor countries of the world. Kwame Nkrumah 1965.

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock. Ancient Mythology: Quote:
Midas was the son of Gordios, a poor peasant, and a Telmissian maiden of the prophetic race. When Midas grew up to be a handsome and valiant man, the Phrygians were ha**ed by civil discord, and consulting the oracle, they were told that a wagon would bring them a king, who would put an end to their discord. While they were still deliberating, Midas arrived with his father and mother, and stopped near the assembly, wagon and all. They, comparing the oracular response with this occurrence, decided that this was the person whom the god told them the wagon would bring. They therefore appointed Midas king and he, putting an end to their discord, dedicated his father’s wagon in the citadel as a thank-offering to Zeus the king. According to Aristotle, legend held that Midas died of hunger as a result of his "vain prayer" for the gold touch.

Crab in the barrel Mentallity

#22 Kunta Kente » 2012-07-12 23:26

Sad but the nature of the karakter of the black person is that they have as we call it a crab mentallity. They reject their own and ensures their own will never reach the top. Or come out of the barrel. We blacks will support any new chinese, libanese or syrian store but let a black person start something we will everything to shoot him/her down. No wonder even while living in a black country run by black people, it is the so called foreigners that call the shots in business and everything else. We just feel good when all of us are down at the bottom of the barrel and no one come out.

This is called 'brainwashing of the ignorant m**'. They put up these signs and nobody knows why. I hear the name David Shoul or see it anywhere and I cringe. Look at Wilmott putting his own name IN STONE in several strategic areas! What's going on here? He paved roads all the way to Picadilly only to end at the entrance of some fancy high end apartments, and we all know who the owner is! What a farce! If you can't laugh at it you haffu cry!

I guess Baldwin want to claim one for himself. Lester claimed he made Hadeed now Baldwin can claim he meck Shoul. Foolish people. It does not matter who you made but who hold the strings in the end. And surely in Antigua we know its either Hadeed or Shoul. And the poor black Antiguans will hold the empty bag in the end.

Pay attention

#19 Observer » 2012-07-12 21:52

At least someone noticed this. Things will go un-notice in this country, such as the colour of all the play-grounds, government buildings, Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground APUA and many more. I believe Bruce was once hailed as well. Serpent was recognized and so on. What does all this means? Just pay attention. UPP is following a script out of a great politcal strategist. ALP is presently at loss. No strategy at all. Just shooting from the hip. Good luck fellows.

#18 Dig It » 2012-07-12 20:20

My fellow bloggers, word on the street is that after the new airport terminal is completed, it may be "renamed" after the Ambassador! , Does the name: "David Should Intertional Airport" ring a bell? From day one, they (Draculars of the night) had planned to put VC in the "dust-bin" of history! They have bigger "plans" in store for their "Great Negotiator!"

The poster of the alien with the caption 'Antigua's Best ...' (I can't bring myself to type the rest) is an unforgivable insult to the children of Klass. Look at what we have descended to! And this from a government who, with the agreement and support of many ** of Klaas, dared to declare their official pardon of Klaas for his role in the 1736 slave revolt - a genuine attempt to right the wrongs of his day! Prince Klaas must indeed be restless in his grave!

Sign or sticker?

#16 It Is Me » 2012-07-12 19:42

The sign doesn't even look good. That is because it shouldn't be up their in the first place.

Since when did they start doing this ambassador of the year thing? Who was ambassador of the year for 2010 ... and who will win it for 2012?

But someone is really trying to rub David Shoul's blunders in our faces!!!

First David Shoul spends 10 million per mile for roads around the Sir Viv stadium then he signs a loan in RMB that has already went from US42 million to US47 million. And he is ambassador of the year 2011? And we will probably start hearing something soon when it comes to his latest deal with the new US47 million Chinese airport deal that hasn't reached to parliament for any debate or approval up to now.

Shoul Is Best What?

#15 Anu » 2012-07-12 13:29

I am at a loss why anyone would want to put up a banner bearing this information on our hospital walls. David Shoul has been involved in a number of questionable negotiations over the years, that involved the Chinese govt. The cricket stadium is one of them. Govt spent millions of dollars on a project that was suppose to be a grant given by the Peoples Republic Of China. To this day, no proper accountability was given for this. WPP being the latest saga, Shoul has not been cooperative. He reportedly refused to meet with the public accounts committee to answer question about his direct involvement in the negotiation. He was making decisions for the negotiation of the loan agreement and decissions that should be conducted by the minister of finance. Who ever errected that banner must be delusional, and it should be removed and burned. Mr Shoul is undeserving of such accalades. Their is alot of unanswered questions to all the questionable deals that he is directly involved in. Time longer than rope and the truth will come out.

Shoul and the Chinese

#14 jeb » 2012-07-12 12:49

I find that sign an insult to Antigua and its’ people. To me Shoul is all about money and arrogance. IMO, his store is full of over-priced sub standard Chinese products. A visual examination of all the Chinese projects here show sub-standard quality.
I dread to think what the quality of the new airport will be. When, not if, the air conditioners, walkways to the aircraft, baggage carousels etc. etc., stop working…what an embar**ment and more expense for this country. As can be seen in the other Chinese projects one can assume there will be the usual wall and foundation cracking, tiles coming loose, roof problems and the list goes on with the problems arising from sub standard products being used by what one can only assume are unqualified builders. The cost rip-offs have been revealed to be horrendous on all; with the WPP, I would think, going down in history as the worst and most expensive rip-off involving David Shoul against the Antiguan public……as the writer says “Shoul the best What”?

time to time LMR does his nonsense. I don't know how he comes up with his best ministers. I remember he had Errol as the best minister the reason he said was for the treasury bills. under Errol we had a free for all, fence and road and sidewalks all over the place. Lol what nonsense. He had baptiste one time as best minister for the housing projects that no one lives in.

Is it the Government that have erected this banner saying that David Shoul is the best ambassador for year 2011?? Please people do your research before spreading statements. How many times in the past have we listened to Serpant and hear him asking the people to identify best performing Minister etc,.??? I am 99% this was not put in place by the Government but for the 1% chance I am wrong I will wait for the verification. However, before we go blasting the man and making assertions do your investigations because as soon as something political is put out we will jump on it like bull dogs.

Mockery of the people!

#8 Dig It » 2012-07-12 08:54

Writer, your keen observation should be praised! You have surely seen the "mockery" that the GOAB continues to make out of the good people of A&B with handling of the WPP! Their "Great Negotiator" have not only "negotiate" in "bx-faith," he has been "shield" from any "questions" to the saga! And, our government have totally disregard the "laws of the land" in these loans\grants with the Chinese! As if that's not enough, to rub salt in our "wounds" the PM and his cronies have "hand-picked" a Sub-Committe that is absolutely a "conflict of interest" with those two "attorneys" on it to investigate any "wrong-doing" and report back to cabinet! I am of the view that the sign should be "torn-down" and "buried" at sea!

Phenomenon, here is a major problem in Antigua. We forget that these people got rich on the backs of poor people from since slavery; some do not have the capacity to think logically because they never had to even think. Their parent had everything and they were given everything so you misinterpret money for intelligence. We misinterpret money for honesty and integrity. We look at a nice suit and tie, pastors collars, Degrees and other accolades and say there goes a good guy, we put people on pedestals. Look at the recent drug bust in DR, an upstanding Antiguan citizen? Not so says the DEA. The container situation at customs, Nice boys everyone an you expect dutty foot fo behave? I don't know why we are so surprised that this sign would be placed there. This is the way the UPP operates, recognizing mixxoxxaty and xxxling. Harold Lovell is yet to present any report on the rip off called Romantic Rhythems. Errl Cort is still to tell us about the deal with Royal Antiguan and the Devcon Deal. Now they are placed on a committee to look into the Power Plant scandal. Trevor Walker and David Shoul are yet to tell us of the million dollars per mile Roads, the sidewalks in St. John and the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, and Winston Williams thinks he is above the law because he has not been asked to give an account for the fence scandal. It will continue to be like that as long as these people are in government. It is this for them to go. Harold, the expletives you said to the Lone Wolf protestors should really be told to yourself. It is time for you and your governmet to do just that and leave office and let persons who can run this country do so.

In time to come the name Shoul that has been around for over a hundred years will become synonymous with "ole engines" and "power -plant rip-off" unless, David encourages his lackey to call the inquiry to clear his family's name!

They again if one has no heirs why worry? First they picket him for the Stadium "road scandal" now they picket him for the Power Plant "ole engine" scandal!

I guess the Airport Terminal "Scandal" will be next? Stay tuned! David...how much is enough? Remember you can wine and dine the Bishops and the Clergy. You can even dine the PM and the Politicians, but remember...God puts on his pyjamas, but he nar sleep!

The fact of the matter is we have alot of persons who contribute more to the country like the numerous athletes that represent Antigua annually and most times they dont even go greet them at the airport muchless to put up signs saying best performer and others in different things. I guess they give who they want what they want, dear observer cant really tell them who to appreciate, however good observation nevertherless.
