In a shocking on-air confession, a British filmmaker and presenter said on a BBC documentary on death, "I killed someone, once." Ray Gosling then describes how he killed his young gay lover afflicted with AIDS.
The police have started an investigation.
Nottingham, United Kingdom - In a BBC East Midlands show broadcast on Monday, filmmaker Ray Gosling strode in front of the camera amidst a cemetery and shared with the world an awful secret: he once killed a man. Gosling said he smothered his gay lover with a pillow when the unnamed man lay dying in a hospital.
Nottinghamshire Police are working with the BBC to investigate the confession.
Some critics wonder why the BBC didn't inform police of the admission when the show was filmed in December. The BBC believes it is under no obligation "to report to police ahead of broadcast but would co-operate with the inquiry."
During the Inside Out show, Gosling walks into the camera's view and begins his confession:
"And maybe, this is the time to share a secret that I've kept for quite a long time.
I killed someone, once. He was a young chap, he had been my lover, and he got AIDS".
Gosling then describes how his lover said he was in "terrible terrible pain" and told the doctors to leave.
Gosling went on:
"And I picked up the pillow, and smothered him until he was dead. The doctor came back, I said, 'He's gone.' Nothing more was ever said.
Apparently, this is the first time Gosling has ever spoken about this murder.
