The country’s leader is accusing members of the opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) including its leader Lester Bird of orchestrating potential criminal acts.
“He predicted escalating crime in the coming months. He also spoke of a Band of Red Shirts marching into Mount St. John Medical Centre,” PM Spencer said.
The nation leaders recalled the trials endured by the Progressive Labour Movement (PLM), stating similar calls were made by the ALP during their tenure in government which incited violence among the populace.
Those threats the PM said triggered instant mindless terror that was unleashed against the society the last time the ALP was in opposition.
The nation’s leader said, “Fortunately, however, our police force today is better trained, better equipped, better motivated and more professional than it was five years ago.
The country is assured of the necessary protection.”The country’s Chief Servant is also of the view that power leads some political figures to become overconfident.
But the Prime Minister stressed that in March 2004 the people clearly handed down judgment for those who had transgressed against the people, “the day we go to the this year, will be Justice Day for the people of Antigua and Barbuda.”
Those accused of betraying the public trust, PM Spencer notes will have to answer to charges of corruption laid against them.
“As has been famously said, those who did the crime must do the time.” He said.
