Alister Thomas Appointment Delayed

Alister ThomasAntigua St. John's - Administration glitches are said to be at the centre of the delay in confirming Alister Thomas as the country's new Information Commissioner.

Thomas' appointment was due to take effect on August 15, but sources have told Caribarena this may instead happen this week or later.

Thomas is still awaiting his Instruments of Appointment. When contacted he said he is reserving comment on the matter.

The information commissioner would be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act of 2004.

This Act seeks to make information easily accessible, thereby improving the transparency of government.

Thomas was confirmed to the post by parliament at the end of last month. However, the appointment has received mixed responses from opposition parliamentarians.

It has been welcomed by St. John's City West MP Gaston Browne and his St. Peter colleague Asot Michael.

In contrast, St Mary's North MP Molwyn Joseph has condemned the move, stating that Thomas does not qualify due to his political affiliations.

Those concerns have been dismissed by Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, who said the new information commissioner has the capacity, determination, desire and will to make the system work.

It has been said that the person filling this post must NOT be an activist. It has also been said that Alister stopped being an activist 2 years ago. It has been noted that Alister was well tacked down in Dashiki from head to toe when Farrakhan (an activist) was here a few months ago and even gave a speech during Farrakhan's program. It has been said that he is now wearing jacket and tie (no more Dashiki?)

Alister, descendant of Klaas, the "glitch" in appointing you to the controversial post of Information Commissioner may be a blessing in disguise. Take the time to THINK! Perhaps our grieving ancestors are saving you from yourself! You have exhibited some excellent and praiseworthy ancestral traits. Why tarnish it now with this unholy alliance with the ghosts of massas past? My brother you are a great disappointment to the disbanded descendants of Klaas who counted on you to play some part in the true liberation of Antigua.

Better to reverse

#6 Free advisor » 2012-08-21 16:19

Dear Dr. Dr. BS It's better if you reverse this before you end up with more egg in your face. Hope you have read most of the postings here on Caribarena. The man is not qualified for the job. You have many more Antiguans who are definitely in the public eyes non political and non-partisan and intellectual. Why choose someone with that much bagage. If you owe him a favor give hime another job as your personal advisor or so.

Big Big Mistake

#2 Dr. Dredd » 2012-08-21 08:58

The appointment of Thomas is a big, big mistake that will come back to bite PM BS. Thomas is so arrogant and full of himself that he will be unable to contain himself. Only he has an opinion. He knows everything and is always right. In fact, he is not very bright but he reads and memorises nice sounding things that fool the average person. You know if you are a good talker you can get away with anything in Antigua. I heard him on a radio station defending his appointment. He spoke for 15 minutes and up to now I don't know what he said.

another piece of the communist dictatorship to lockdown antigua moving into place. Supposedly a nice salary and all the perks to go with it at a time when government cannot pay existing salaries. Just what does A. Thomas have to offer?
