Jamaican Woman Caught With Drugs

CannabisAntigua St John's - A 61-year-old Jamaican woman was intercepted Thursday at the VC Bird International Airport allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into the country.

The woman arrived early Thursday evening on a flight from Kingston.

Customs officials found three plastic bags of cannabis concealed in the inner portion of a track suit in her luggage.

She was arrested and taken into custody, and is expected to go before a magistrate on charges including possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to transfer.

This is just one of the things that makes us uncomfortable with them around us. Though she may not be antiguan it reflects bad on us as if we use so moch weed that it needs to be imported weekly. Visas required and stiffer immigration laws - not those when you are friends with the politicians and the immigration officers. I was once told by a JAmaican that intelligent Jamaicans go north and the worthless ones go caribbean. is this what we wan to be known for - RIFRAFFS?

The problem I see with that position is the negative light it shines on their reputation. No country should delight in having its reputation dragged through the mud.

Morris i think you should look at it from another angle.
Check this! what if this is an arrangement between two Departments of two countries, Authorities in Jamaica let a few slip by and at the same time notify Antigua Authorities to look out for a certain individual, the said individual arrive we make the bust the next day it's in the news." How about an A+ for our Customs and National Security Department " the people shouted. But at the same time the Jamaican population in Antigua continues to rise ??????????????????????
I never been to Jamaica but i have a feeling the Jamaica airport Authority is equip to catch an easy target as this.

I am a Jamaican and i do agree with the comments that they dont want to deal with there problem they call Antigua. Jamaica has a lot of security system that picks up everything so they saw the ganja from the bag goes in the check and that is why when you are check in they ask you if everything in the bag belongs to you and if no they ask if you check it when you received it. They already take the bag from you and you already in the waiting for departure why bothering you again.

Antigua and the world knows that Jamaica is famous for ganja. So why dont your government expect that certain type of passengers from there will be bringing in their product.

What a shame

#9 The Wadadli Blogger » 2012-01-13 17:45

Whoever put this 61 year old lady up to do this has no morals and they should rott in a prison and then burn in H E L L ... I see some bloggers talking about letting Jamaicans get Visa and telling us to work with the JA authorities to beef up security etc... well Canada, UK, & the USA ask for Visa from them and they have ridiculous security and yet everyday smuggling is still going on in those countries ... once the demand is there smugglers will find a way to get it there ... stop the demand and you stop the problem.

I just realise if these guys dont do their jobs properly alot of drugs would be coming into the country. I now understand why they are the way they are treating everyone the same 61yo who would have suspected that. good job guys

Morris I will agree with you some. I dont think it is lack of security screening and the likes at the JA port. It is just another "ignore that and let the port of entry deal with it". And then probably call Antigua and tip them off as well. They (JA & ANU) sees it as cooperation between states. But for JA its one less case to deal with and for ANU is another case to burden our resources (court expense, prison keep, etc).

I say that on the premise that some states do not have the resource or they do not wish to deal with such situations. But all iin all I agree with you that something needs to be done. These cases are a burden on our court system and don't even talk about the prison and its resources.

I have said this before, and will say it again, "It is high time the gov't of ANU engage in some high-level talk with the gov't of JA to beef up their security procedures and put an end to this almost weekly drug smuggling,"
