Bizarre Intervention By Top Cop

Police Commissioner Vere BrowneAntigua St. John's - Following the shooting incident which occurred at the home of a female police officer at Nut Grove over the weekend that left her husband nursing two gunshot wounds, Police Commissioner Vere Browne was said to have intervened in the matter.

Speaking to Observer media, the top COP was heard saying that the matter was under investigation.

However, in a apparent strange twist, the media indicated that the head of the Antigua Police Force was to meet with the three parties involved in the incident at the American Road Police Headquarters today.

The shooting had reportedly occurred in the bedroom of the female officer’s home, where it was reported that the husband had intruded and came upon his wife and a serving male police constable.

It was reported that a confrontation between the male constable and the husband developed, at which time the male officer drew his service weapon and shot the husband in the shoulder and in the back of his leg.

From earlier reports, Caribarena has learned that police officers from Gray's Farm police station had responded to the scene and were carrying out investigations.

The rank and file appears to be somewhat suspicious of the top cop’s intervention before the investigation was completed.

Antigua Bill@,Just hearing a story and making a judgement is stupid you have no evidence, first thing all three persons are not police officers, second ly the matter is being investigated by grays farm police station not the cop,and lastly you shoul be deleted as a blogger for conduct onbecoming of a blogger.

Gentlemen, and there you have it. Quite ostensibly absent is anything about crime or crime prevention. So the rise in the blatant criminal activity is no a accident. While the COP has spent his time in these puff ball issues, the criminal element in our society has has been running virtually unabated and we have become prisoners in our own homes.

" The Husband had intruded???????

#33 jody » 2013-03-12 23:42

The comments from Caribarena stated," The shooting had reportedly occurred in the bedroom of the female office's home where it was reported that the husband had intruded........
If the female police officer is married to the husband how can he be intruding in his own bedroom or his home? I think the "serving male police constable" is the intruder. I think he should be arrested for shooting the husband.Further more, the "Top Cop" should not take it upon himself to conduct the investigation.I Are the top cop and the serving police officer buddies? This smells rather fishy.

1. Prosecuting opposition members for marching up the wrong street even though the police admitted they had mailed the notice (change of steets), the ALP general secretary testified she received the letter 2 weeks after the march.
2. Calling for a magistrate to be reprimanded because she threw out the case above. The COP claimed the case was of historical importance
3. Setting a route that if consultations had been held he would have known the trucks could not pass. Therefore we can accuse him of purposefully or not trying to impede a march

Here is what on the COPs whiteboard: (1) reviving antiquated laws on the books; (2) closing entertainment venues at midnight; (3) looking at discrimination of women police officers and (4) investigating a shooting involving his officers in love triangle.

If I missed anything, please add!

Wrong move COP!

#29 Dig It » 2013-03-12 20:04

What COP would 'intervene' in a "love-triangle" of his officers, without waiting for the investigation to be 'completed?' What can he possibly gain from this "intervention" with his officers? Bedroom Lessons 101? If this is a 'protocol,' I don't care to hear the outcome of this meeting. Pure Goggledhook!!!

RAWLSTON POMPEY - commissioner Skyewill?

#26 skyewill » 2013-03-12 15:19

You are brilliant! :P 8) has a nice ring to it. But what about the pay? the first day I get a late payment I will lock up the entire government. First I have to say that I care for our officers. I know what they are going through with no equipment, and weak training and no admin support. Poor management. I did considered signing up until I heard that recruits get $300 EC per week, that's $120 USD per week. :-x I would take better care of my officers :P THEY NEED A CIVILIAN ADMINISTRATIVE CORP/MISSION SUPPORT SPECIALISTS AND RADIOS. If they had radios that killer in Heritage Quay may not have gotten away. I have trained thousands of military personel including Japanese, jamaica, Saudi Arabia, US Army, Navy, USAF, Coast Guard and Marines. My children are FBI, CIA, DEA and Boarder Patrol Agents. Nomininated top 10 Airmen, decorated hero and a protected under US Code, 3 college degrees one American Bar cert in the legal field. Tall, dark handsome and psycally fit. INTEGRITY FIRST, SEERVICE BEFORE SELF AND EXCELLENCE ...Huraaaay. But seriously, if Antigua want an excellent commissioner... ...BLOGGER "MORRIS" IS MY CHOICE. he is not as good looking but smarter.

@ tenan....if you watch the press ocnference held with the minister after the shooting of Susan Powell you would notice that Browne wasnt present and we havent heard from him in with regards to any of the recent issues. There was reference made in some article that he was on vacation. I guess it is now up and or he was called off like everyone else..... We all want our vacation when time comes around so the COPS should have theres too.

hmmm, you say your husband has not been on vacation in the past 5 years? My issue with the COP is based on press releases of his vacations, it seems to me that he spends at least half the year on vacation. The good Dr. Then tells us some weeks ago that police men have been brought back from vacation yet we hear nothing of the COP until this article. Its as if its Dr. Cort is now the COP and this interpretation is reinforced by interviews with Cort stating he has given the police instructions. hmm, thats the COP's job not a minister/ policy maker

My Husband is a police officer, havent had vacation for over 5 years and works long hours doing extra duty some of which is almost a year old which he doesnt get paid for and every month the paycheck late.. working conditions are not the best either. When crime happens, we all have a lot to say, but the reality is the police force is understaffed and its all well and good for them to work 6 days a week without xtra pay but they are humans and body get tired just like u and me without good pay to buy tonic or time off to get rest. Why dont all the Caribarena experts go joing the police force?? they need good mena and women like u.

STRANGER THAN FICTION

#14 RAWLSTON POMPEY » 2013-03-12 10:51

Though it may seem "...Stranger Than Fiction," let sanity prevail. Don't be too hard on the "...Top Cop."

It is obvious that you " ...guys/gals" know something about procedures.

If only for academic interest:

Section 4 of the Disciplinary Regulations [Police Act, Chapter 330- "...Investigati on of Charges" states (1) "...When a report, allegation or complaint is received by the Commissioner of Police from which it APPEARS that a member of the Force may have committed an offence, the matter 'SHALL' be referred to an ' ...INVESTIGATIN G OFFICER' who SHALL caused it to be investigated."

(2) ...The Investigating Officer SHALL be such member of the Force, of or above the rank of Sergeant as may be 'DESIGNATED' by the Commissioner of Police for the purpose."

It was clear that it was never intended for "...Commissione r Skyewill and the other well thinking Commissioners" on the subject to be part of the "...investigati ve process." Such intervention, even by " ...public perception" could very well "...compromise the investigation." Skyewill cannot be "...Investigato r, Judge, Jury and Punisher."

How quick are we to rush to judgement. So far these are allegations. Certainly the situation needs investigation and am sure the officers involved will be put on suspension pending the investigation. I am of the view that Mr. Browne is well- intentioned and his bringing to the fore the concept of community policing is a move in the right direction. There are some fundamental and systemic issues with the Police Force that need to be addressed and which will take a concerted effort and reasonable time to put right. A complete overhaul of the Force is required that includes: Recruitment, Training, Remuneration, Promotion, Equipment, Professional Ethics, Relationship with the public, Crime prevention and detection, Discipline..... ..

following his track record on stupidity this one should be considered a minor zinger. Miles short of the usual major whoppers he normally produces.
yet he continues to get paid , plenty and on time go figure.

What is the matter with bloggers here? Wake up. The COP has one job and one job only. To lock up political foes of the UPP. That is why he has had more vacation in 18 months than anyone else in Antigua's history. He is in Tortola ever 2 weeks to x x x x and still gets paid. And we like it so.

The Top Flop is back? He now has stooped to a new low by intervening into this matter before an investigation is done. I am embar**ed and we all must demand his resignation. What incompetence. What poor judgement. The Security Minister and/or the PM must intervene to stop this abomination of justice. Its better Top Flop goes back on vacation...PLEA SE...

This is the height of incompetence and poor judgement. I thought I had seen it all but, low and behold, our top cop reaches new heights! A police officer discharges his firearm at someone with the intent to kill. The shot hits and injures the estranged husband of the woman in the police officers bed. No investigation, yet the top cop (irony intended) will call all 3 parties into his office for what?? Our Flop Cop will be acting as investigator, prosecutor, judge, jury, and executioner in one fail swoop. Of course we all know that he is intervening so that no criminal charges can be laid as there will be no investigation. All will be forgiven if the estranged husband agrees not to file a complaint. What a disaster. What a travesty. The Security Minister and/or PM have to INTERVENE themselves to stop this move or we will become the laughing stock of the Eastern Caribbean. The Top Flop must go back on leave.

Wait a minute! After being absent for the past couple of weeks, the CoP surfaces with some strange and questionable tactics? They need to subject him to a urinalysis to ensure he is not under the influence of some strange stuff. In case he hasn't noticed or read the news, there are some very dangerous criminals out there wreaking havoc on the good citizens of ANU and they need his immediate attention ASAP.

In the US military there is a cod of conduct called the UCMJ or Uniform Code of Military Justice. All 3 would have been arrested and court marshalled  . IF an INVESTIGATION IS ON GOING then COP should wait for the results. maybe he isconducting the invesitgation himself and going to fire them. I hope he do not call all 3 in at the same time as it could get ugly or worse. :-x
