Gas Station Robbery

The Owner's pickup, which later found overturnedAntigua St. John's - The Police are conducting investigations into a report of robbery which took place near the airport, where the owner and operator of a service station was beaten and robbed of his vehicle, yesterday (Friday) night.

It was reported that the 68 years old owner of the service station located on Sir George Walter Highway, near the V.C. Bird International Airport, had just closed his business place and was entering his vehicle, when two armed masked men walked up to him and held him at gunpoint.

It was further reported that the assailants ordered him out of his vehicle and began beating him while demanding money.

He however managed to escape his attackers and ran next door where a security officer came to his assistance.

It is said the men sped away from the scene in the Owner's pickup, which the police later found overturned in the vicinity of the airport perimeter fence, not far from where the incident took place.

The Service Station owner was later taken to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries he sustained during the incident.

Both men were described to be wearing all dark clothing, and are said to be approximately 5ft-9ins in height and slim built.

The Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact the nearest police station, or call Crime Stoppers at 800-Tips (8477).

In an unrelated matter, two men, an All Saints Man and a man from Villa were jointly arrested and charged with Possession of 181 Grams of Cannabis, and Possession with intent to Transfer.

The incident took place on Old Parham Road during a stop and search exercise around 4am on Saturday. The All Saints man was further charged with Possession of 3Grams of Cocaine.

Post Mortem
The Police reported that a post mortem examination on Friday was conducted on the body of the late 35 years Colin Wright of Mount Obama and upon conclusion of the examination, a death certificate was issued stating that the cause of death was due to Bronchopneumonia.

Colin’s body was discovered in a galvanize shack on the 6th of January in its late stages of decomposition. Pathologist Dr. Goodwin performed the examination.

I want to know if it is only cannabis crimes this police force can solve. legalize the herb, give young people a break and go do some real work. too many unsolved cases in little antigua. After all it is better than **ism which they see no problem with.

This. Is the second time that this businessman was attacked. Based on the damages to the vehicle someone of the perpetrators must have gotten hurt. Come on people if you don't trust the police call the crime stoppers hot line 1 800 222 TIPS (8477) as the saying goes god help those who help themselves. ALL HE WAS DOING WAS MAKING AN HONEST LIVING HE DOESN'T DESERVE THIS NOR DOES GRAVY OR MRS POWELL OR ANY OF THE OTHER VICTIMS OF CRIME. CRIME DOES NOT ONLY AFFECT THE VICTIMS BUT THEIR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND THE PUBLIC AT LARGE.

Viagra Kills!,when you say that you have ABSOLUTELY NO FAITH in the police force, are you saying that If someone were to attack a member of your family and robbed him or her of their money and you witnessed it,you wouldn't report the incident to the police? If you say yes, then you trust them. On the other hand, your family would ABSOLUTELY LOSE ALL FAITH in you if you just flatly refuse to share any information with the police that might help them to bring the person responsible for the crime against your family member to justice.

@ senseless, I found your comment to be rather "senseless" indeed. I for what do not have the backs of the police force (as they do not have mine nor the country's). Why should I trust you, when you have exposed my **ocks to cold air. Gimme a break. Some radical changes need to be made within the force. God forbid I should witness a crime and have to describe the perpetrator to the police. Next thing you know, an officer divulges information to their spouse/girlfrie nd and she tell x, and x tell y and y tell z...etc. My confidentiality as a witness has been serisouly compromised. And yes this is happening NOW in the force even as we speak. I could go on and on, but the Police Force is ill-equipped and ill-prepared and ill-trained to handle reality.

The reason we are seeing so many robberies carried out by armed masked men in Antigua & Barbuda is that the masked robbers have already figured out that, unless they are caught at the scene, they will get away with the crime every single time.So you can say that by wearing the mask, which makes it more difficult or nearly impossible to identify them after the damage is done, criminals have found a reliable way to beat the system, and even the surveillance cameras.

Another armed robbery in Antigua. What a surprise! Where were the police patrols? There are none. With all the police supposedly ordered back to work by the security minister....whe re is the police commander in chief? Missing in action is he? Perhaps government didn't call him back after all...for a reason. Time for a change in police chiefs....the PM better act now before the election or the new administration will most certainly act to replace our police chief. The police chief is responsible for enforcing the laws of Antigua as well as protecting its citizenry. What a gross failure indeed. Al the political leaders sit on their hands and do nothing.
We have reverted to trinidad....Jam aica ... where the criminals run the asylum...we need divine intervention to push the PM to do the right thing.

I think if the people that know something say something to the police these crimes can be solve but everybody is staying mum. Let's bring our country back to when I was growing up where no one was living in fear and you didn't have to lock up your house to go to town. This is ridiculous now and pretty soon tourist are not going to come there more more.

Changing an island economy from Tax free jurisdiction was bound to have economic impacts as the trickle down effect was stemmed, that coupled with Introduction of VAT will cause borderline criminals to flip, it can't be reversed now, and will get worse as the the economy contracts

This sort of thing is a routine now like going to work. Why is it still making news? Not like the 5" 7/9 inches description, dar k in complexion wearing dark colour clothing,is helping to catch the criminals, actua lly isnt that 80% of the male population? The colour of the clothing is not relevant, its not stucked to your skin,it can and will be changed after the fact. I will forever say,we are reaping the fruits of a broken sick society, after this set is caught/killed/ tired or whatever, will it stop? NO.There are already some dangerous seeds and new shoots springing up each day, because the poison is still in the roots.

Are Antiguans aware that there is a ring of thieves that preys on shoppers in major supermarkets? And that there have been incidents where they have lifted wallets from handbags and shopping carts and later returned them to the owners becuase they had no money? Are Antiguans aware that even though they are caught on camera, the management does nothing about it?
