The main problem with the polife is that the force is made up of 90% foreigners who don't give a crap about antigua. The only care about the salary they get for doing nothing. If you don't believe that the force is full of foreigners ask yourself when last you went to the station or you saw one speaking somewhere which accent do you detect? Most of the inspectors are foreigners who do the recruiting and the send for their siblings and people they know from back hometo join the force. Antiguan males are rejected mostly from the recruiting crop.

Police presence is not enough!

#19 Over Taxed » 2013-02-28 17:54

The morning following the tradegy at Heritage Quay, I passed through the area and there were nearly as many Police as there were taxi drivers, all with their firearms on their hips. However, as I stood and observed them, I did not see any one of them looking like they were scrutinizing anyone or the area, given the recent event. It looked to me more like they were at a social gathering, rather than working. I think our officers must be more conscious of what their job entails and regardless of whether or not they are on duty, they should be thinking like a Police officer and be alert to their surroundings and what's happening around them. Yes, it may mean doing some "profiling", but it they get that gut feeling of something not being right, they need to act and investigate; question if necessary. I hope that our officers realize that their job is not a mindless 8-4 job. They need to concentrate on what they were placed there to do.

In the mean time the UPP has been very busy contacting all the young artists and promoters and DJs to play for them to promote the Party to the young voters! Do you think they will be sucessful with this? I hardly think so! They already signed a big contract with the young promoters form Crosbies to put on shows to promote the Party!

At the end of the day UPP must go!

We seem to be taking this incident which took the life of a young citizen to create unnecessary problems in the country of Antigua and Barbuda. I call on management of Caribarena to verify information before reporting, the damage that false reporting causes out ways any apology especially of what is happening presently in our country Antigua and Barbuda.

Police and defence force are clueless in fighting crime because for one police are busy transporting family and associates in government vehicles and defence force men are busy up at the stadium teaching exercise cl**.

Not to dismiss the escalation of gun crimes is Antigua - but this story does not sound true to me. Why?
1. What part of Heritage Quay was this person at?
2. 6:30 is not really 'dark' and not to mention the heavy police presence that was still in the area. Did they mention it to a police that was there?

We are already troubled by the events in our country so people should refrain from causing unnecessary alarm amongst the populace and the media too should be responsible when reporting these perpetrated crimes. Always seek confirmation before printing.

And where were our police when this happened? Patrolling? No. What are the police doing? Our police chief is silent and invisible. How many more citizens must be traumatized and threatened before action is taken by the PM and security minister to remove the silent and invisible chief and replace him with someone who knows what he is doing! Do we have to wit for the next election?? God save us from incompetence...

Dear Caribarena, if you fail to get hard facts on such a serious claim then you should not have published this "information" because there seem to be many rumors spreading like wildfire since the shooting incident e.g. the Mill Reef incident which left many even more scared yesterday.

Let us have some responsible journalism please. Thank you.

Is this a joke? I still can't beleive that this kind of crap is happening in my once beautful and peaceful island. What a shame, I guess I can't walk around anymore in Antigua without being afraid of being robbed. The only thing we used to scared of was jumbie and wild dogs chasing us after watching the scary Saturday night movies at Deluxe. I still can't wait to come home for vacation anyway.

And nobody said a word

#7 JP Farnsworth » 2013-02-28 09:11

Let's see if I understand, there were masked men walking around they Quay and nobody called police? And we have no video cameras in the area and no police? So why were they wearing masks? How come nobody saw them? Sorry this story sounds phony to me.

Where was the Tourism Police Unit

#5 Dig It » 2013-02-28 08:37

If this trend continues at Heritage Quay continues, it will definately run our cruise chips away. Morris, the last time I checked, the NS Minister said a 'Tourism Police Unit' had formed and is "operational." They always tell us things are in place but we know better! The Minister said
Quote:
“The police have formed a tourism police unit with specially trained police officers to deal with this issue. So therefore, our beaches and elsewhere tourists visit will have the full protection of this special tourism police unit that has been formed in the Royal Police Force of Antigua & Barbuda,” Dr Cort told the media
www.caribarena.com/antigua/tourism/tourism-news/102746-tourism-police-unit-established.html#ixzz2MCDaJggy
Where were they when this Camp Blizzard man was 'robbed' and when Susan Powell was killed in cold-blood? Your guess is as good as mine. The Police Station is just stone-throw away from Heritage Quay but the 'masked men' don't care, as they go about their crime spree. I pray for this nation.

Antigua as a nation is weak and has no leaders .... RED OR BLUE ..... there all gutless , greedy lying fools ! ....

Heritage Quay again? I thought that with the recent tragedy there was an increased police presence in this area to prevent/reduce these type of things. We really need to get the upper hand on this crime surge.

Am telling you these criminals we have here in Antigua got to be the bravest criminals across this region, it's as if they showing our police who really rule or it's because they know our officers are noway to be found. I know crime wasn't this bad back then, so what was the real reason the UPP government sent all our top cops on vacation and then put poor Ms Christopher in a position that quickly bring her career to an end? The police might not be there to prevent certain crime but at least a patrol or two should be always hanging some where close by ready punce on any call. How can these guys do these stuff and just walk away so easily to do it over and over? I still can't picture an Antiguan born and raise living here all his life commiting such violent acts against his own people, like all these cold blooded killing. This is the heart of someone that did this abroad and after returning home and see how inept our law enforcement is, decide to jump right back in and he now have recruits. It's a fact our youths are easily influence by anything USA or anything JA and with no job or anything constructive to do look out.
