Masked Men Strike

Masked Men StrikeAntigua St. John's - Forty (40) year old Everton ‘Shaka’ Joseph of Wilikies has reportedly been critically injured after being accosted as he sat talking with his girlfriend in his gray Daihatsu jeep yesterday evening in Wilikies.

According to Joseph’s girlfriend, one of the masked men came to her side of the vehicle and demanded money, which she said she didn’t have.

At this point Joseph had also been approached on his side of the vehicle by a second masked individual aiming a gun.

Joseph and his attacker reportedly struggled; the accomplice abandoned Joseph's girlfriend side of the vehicle, allowing her to escape as she yelled, “masked man!” to alert residents in the immediate area.

Upon her return to the vehicle with help, Joseph appeared to have sustained injuries and was immediately rushed to Mount Saint John’s Medical Centre where he reportedly remains in critical condition.

No further details have been released.

Caribarena will continue to follow this story and anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the nearest police station.

Criminal Take Over..

#41 At Your Own Risk » 2013-02-25 14:21

Not too long ago there was a story about a Jamaican woman who came to Antigua and wrote a letter back to Jamaica, advising all her girl friends to come to Antigua because the Antigua men treat women good..well the same can be said about the crime in Antigua, the criminals are taking over Antigua because in Antigua you can commit a crime and get away with it. To date, the rapist that was terrorising women still has not be caught...now you have masked me terrorising the country and bold enough to commit their crimes in high day time because they have no fear of getting caught.

Take Control

#40 At Your Own Risk » 2013-02-25 13:22

Baldwin Spencer do not give a damn about the safety of the people of Antigua and Barbuda..alll the security units he hab transporting him home should be assigned to protect the people of the country...while he hab this long motorcade transporting him to his house, people lives are being affected by the crimes that is functuating the country, yet he is doing nothing the assist in reducing the crime rate on the country. A country the size of Antigua, 108 sq miles and whose main industry is tourism, should not be plagued by all this crime. Where the government is failing then the people of Antigua need to stand up for themselves and take matters in the own hands...There are alot of ways to fight back against these criminals. , do your research, educate yourselves and equipped yourself with the ways you can fight back against these criminals..anot her way is to set up neighborhood watches..while I was visiting my family last year, one night all the dogs in the area was barking, like an alert bark, yet noone paid attention..be vigiliant..be alert...take control of your country back from these animals...there is strength and victory in numbers. You can do it!!!

This is a good man. A father, a body builder, a healthly person who has a kind heart and a religious man, willing to help those in need. Not into the drug scene, not into criminal activity.
Be strong Shaka, you must overcome this battle.
Thoughts and prayers with you.

False Reports of Death

#35 caribarena admin » 2013-02-19 22:31

Please be advised that Evinston “Shaka” Joseph, the 44-year-old Willikies man who was shot in the head on Monday night, remains on life support in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MJSMC) awaiting surgery. He is currently attached to a ventilation unit and being kept in a fully sedated state.

False reports of his death have been labelled “sad” and “insensitive”. Caribarena will keep Mr. Joseph and his family in our thoughts.

You are correct it is their job. I know it is hard to believe but yes the criminals are operating full time and are organized. Just like real drug dealers it’s a business with managers and supervisors and trainers. The police are not equipped to handle this sophistication. Look there are no job creation in Antigua so guess what, job are going to be created anyway. Necessity is the mother of invention. It is the concept of evolution. There is no way the human spirit will lose the will to survive and depending on the conditioning, those who have the gene to perform without conscious will pray on the innocent if the need to survive arise. You got some big wig stealing Health Department container and he can do um and nuttin. Well me can’t get container, too big and me too small but me can rob and tief. Crime do pay so why not. Now its going to be even harder to recondition them when real work come cause crime is easier and the risk of getting caught is small and even when you get caught the case get lost in the system and or the fine is small and the sentence low.

#28 Just asking » 2013-02-19 16:18

Please Mr. Cort and Commissioner Brown,
In order for you guys to be better able to solve crimes I am giving you a list based on my experience last night with this incident...
1. When we called the Willikies Police Station, we were told by your officers on duty they did not have a vehicle and would have to contact their supervisor in order to respond. THAT MEANT THEY WERE LATE TO ARRIVE AT THE SCENE ALLOWING ONLOOKERS TO CONTAMINATE THE AREA

2. The three first responders that arrived did not have police tape to block off the area.... they tried to ask people to stand back a few feet but it fell on deaf ears. IT WAS LIKE CARNIVAL AND PEOPLE WERE ABLE TO GET TOO CLOSE TO THE VICTIM THAT THEY KNEW WHERE HE WAS SHOT
3. The three first responders did not have basic supplies such as gloves, SO THEY WERE UNABLE TO SECURE ANY EVIDENCE ETC.
4. It was nice to see all those police officers arriving eventually but they were rather late given the seriousness of the crime. How can they deter crime without tools?

Right now the police is out there rounding up the usual suspects. Public pressure is on and in a day or two you will hear them say that they have the suspects in custody. They will tell the public that they cannot give any details at this time but they will give you a cock and bull story and expect you to forget it all. Antigua Bill say that if you have the means of arming yourself with a fire arm do so. You have a right to be able to protect yourself, your family and your property. The narative is still going on in America about gun control. just yesterday I heard that everywherethere was a massecre with a riffle or gun was in a gun free zone. Schools, Theatre, shopping malls and plasces where people inocently go about their business. It is said that the States with the toughest gun laws have the highest homocide rate. Chicago, New York. Law abiding citizens purchase guns to protsct life, family and property. Criminals purchase guns to terrorize law abiding citizens. I could be a victim even with a gun but having it even the odds. Make it easier for every law abiding citizen In Antigua to own a hand gun.

ATTN, ALL GUN HOLDERS IN ANTIGUA - NEW LAW!
25 years for possession of an unlicensed fire arm. NO Parole, No out for good behavior, just 25 YEARS HARD Labor.

People lets get our country back!!!!!!!!!!!
Petition our government to change the gun laws.

IF we had this law above in place we would no longer have crime in our country.
The Government needS to WAKE UP AND CHANGE THE LAWS TO ILLEGAL GUNS.
This is a simple way to stop the insanity.

Save our Country

#15 DadliSun » 2013-02-19 10:34

How many more of our sons, daughters, mothers and fathers will die before the politicians realize the NEED to reform the criminal justice system? The Magistrate Code was done for political gesturing and serves as an added incendiary for a runaway criminal train. Our criminal justice reformation should include every aspect of the system - police, court, prison, rehab. For gun crimes, let's start with 10/20/LIFE or EXECUTION (10 years if caught with a gun/ 20 years if you fire a gun/ LIFE or EXECUTION for murder with a gun); the judge has no power to change the sentence once found guilty.

It is so surreal.... I was sitting at my computer when I heard the loud shots and the young lady screaming for some one to call the ambulance and the police. As an observer of the aftermath, I have one thing I would like to comment on. By the time the first responders arrived on the scene, there were scores of individuals walking up to the vehicle and around the crime scene. The officers did not secure the scene until the second responders arrived. Our people need to understand that they can contaminate the scene making it difficult for the officers to solve the crime.

Where is the "media moment minister". OHHHHHH this is not a media moment that is in good favor with the minister. Come out, tell us about the vegetables you are selling from the prison to "add something to the kitty" whilst we the public suffer from gun related crime. I though that there was already assigned a minister of agriculture.

#6 Dig It » 2013-02-19 08:29

My prayers are with Mr. Joseph. A courageous effort by his girl in 'yelling' to alert residents. These "masked men" have really turned this once peaceful and loving country into a 'state-of-fear. ' They have attacked our residents in their own homes and the streets. You can't play warri, dominoes, take a swim at the beach, sit on your own gallery, and, not even sit in your own vehicle, without been subjected to 'gun-related' crimes from these 'masked bandits.' Just where is safe in these lands? We must take back our 'quality-of-lif e' from the criminals, by working together or with law enforcement to win this fight.
