Officer Remanded on Rape Charge

Officer Remanded on Rape ChargeAntigua St. John’s - Another member of the Royal Police Force of Antigua & Barbuda has found himself on the wrong side of the law.

The officer, who is believed to be in his early 30s, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh on Thursday after 4 pm, he was ordered to be kept in police custody until Monday 20th August, when he will be brought before the All Saint Magistrate Court.

The police officer was charged earlier that afternoon for having unlawful sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 16.

The offence is alleged to have occurred between May 1 and 31 of this year.

He is the second officer within months to be charged with a sexual offence against a young person.

i love the force and when i was enlisted years ago i heard a deputy said i dont want see what the force would be like, when you have officers with 4 and 5 years service telling officers incharge that they cannot work at nights and job is secondary. a proper screening process is needed not no one in an office or one who is on special branch.the persons who have been recruited for the pass 7 or 8years leave a lot to be desired they dont want to be police officers, just check the years of service getting into trouble with law. dicipline is a total breakdown, we need a devine intervention.

GOOD JOB POLICE FORCE,ARRESTING ONE OF YOUR OWN IS NOT AN EASY THING.MANY YEARS AGO IN ANTIGUA AND IN THE USA THERE WAS A BROTHERHOOD AMONGST COPS.THAT IS THE REASON THERE WERE LITTLE AND OR NO ARRESTS AMONG COPS.THE BROTHERHOOD HAS BEEN BROKEN.THERE ARE GOOD HARD WORKING,HONEST COPS ON ALL FORCES.THE BAD APPLES THEY USUALLY FLOAT TO THE TOP AND THEY SHOULD BE THROWN OUT.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK,ARREST ALL CRIMINALS REGARDLESS.

Police again?! Stricter regulations for the incoming officers are needed! This report is missing a significant piece of information - What is the officer's name?

While the Village Idiot finds the time to dabble, like a pot spoon, in every political matter, the police force is in its worst state in the history of A&B. Never before have we seen police officers running cotrary to the law with such frequency. All this at a time when the force is being lead by the most pompous, self-acclaimed and lettered man in its history. This man has been nothing but an abject failure.

Total shame and disgrace!

#10 Dig It » 2012-08-17 10:19

Sadly, our children are not even "protected" by those who supposed to enforce our laws! I am of the view that we need to enforce tougher laws and penalties for sexual offences against minors to protect them from the "pedifiles" and "low-lifes" of society! We shouldn't just send these "predators" to jail and let them come back out and repeat their offences! We need to make life harder and tougher for them to integrate back into society! Our children don't deserve to grow up so quickly! They should be protected and not become preys! Where the caretakers of society that should be watching and guiding the most vulnerables and precious gems on this earth? Shame on all who continue to stand by and allow these offences against our children!

This officer brings the count to 13 officers for the year including the one that obsconded for the insurance fraud. This is no more a case of 'bad apples' in the force but evidence of the prevailing culture. The commissioner needs to lead from the front in this regard.

Time

#8 Silent Observer » 2012-08-17 10:01

It is about time the police are held accountable and responsible for their human greed and lust. They are after all human and will err. They must be held accountable and not ignored. Police around the world have evil in their forces, we in Antigua are not exempt but they are usually in a position to get a cover.... No longer. Time is up. There a lots more to go down that line!

Never have so many police officers in Antigua and Barbuda been CAUGHT. That was because there was no procedure for making claims against police officers, nor were authorities focused on cleaning up the force. While the majority of police officers do their jobs well, there have always been bad apples. I applaud the heirachy of the force in doing their best to get rid of those bad apples.

And please, not everything has to be red and blue.

Another police officer again?

#6 Morris » 2012-08-17 09:16

Picking cherries before the tree blossoms? It seems like there are too many foxes guarding the hen house. Whenever officers are caught breaking the very law they are there to enforce, I do believe that their punishment should be more severe than the average citizen because they know better.

#3 budman » 2012-08-17 08:26

this is about the 11th or 12th police officer that has been arrested so far for the year and there is still one on the run for the alleged car insurance scam. Well thought disappointed by this , I am still happy because it means that we are finally going after the police that act outside of the law

UPP Mal-Administrat ion

#2 Josh » 2012-08-17 06:31

Never in the history of the Antigua & Barbuda Police force have so many police officers committed illegal and immoral acts. When the UPP administration took power and unethically and unlawfully removed a large number of the Police High Command for purely evil political reasons, it caused a serous break-down in discipline, morals and ethics in the organisation. The force has never recovered to this day, and the results are seen by the large number of officers involved in awful acts.Baldwin Spencer and his UPP mal-administrat ion is now reaping what they have sown! Save this nation and vote them out before it's too late!
