Antigua St John's - Ivan George, a 44-year-old shop owner, is now a patient of the Mount St. John’s Medical Center after being shot in the chest by armed gunmen on Saturday morning.

Reports reaching Caribarena suggest that two masked gunmen managed to make off with at least EC$700 following what lawmen believe to be a planned robbery. The incident took place in a convenience store in Freeman’s Village.

Doctors say the victim still has a bullet lodged in one of his lungs and that he is in serious but stable condition.

It is reported that the gunmen entered the establishment around 8:00am on the day in question and demanded jewelry from the victim. He is said to have been shot while attempting to remove a gold chain from his neck to give to the robbers.

In another matter, Caribarena has learnt of a police investigation into the reported disappearance of English Harbor resident Shamoye Phillip.

The 12-year-old boy was reportedly last seen on Saturday, wearing only a vest and boxer shorts. He is described as dark in complexion, slight in build and about 5 feet 5 inches tall.

Any persons having information about the whereabouts of missing Shamoye Phillip are asked to call his mother, Stephanie Clark, at 771 7334 or 782 2636.

Police say investigations into this matter are ongoing.

In an unrelated matter A popular local journalist is facing the possibility of serving time in jail after being charged with Gross Indecency against a minor.

If found guilty under the Sexual Offences Act the journalist may be sentenced to serve up to five years in prison.

The latest reports are that the individual in question, after being held for a couple of days assisting the police with their investigations, was charged with the offence and granted station bail in the amount of $10,000.

Until a conviction is handed down the media is prohibited from revealing the name of any person charged with an offence under the Sexual Offences Act.

The name of the victim may not be revealed at any time, except by the express permission of the injured party.

The accused journalist is due to appear in the Magistrate’s Court, where bail arrangements will be formalized and a committal date set.

Committal is expected to be some three months after the initial hearing before the Magistrate.

Since the offence is indictable, committal will see the case being set down for trial in the High Court before a judge and jury.
