Police Investigate Death of 17 year Old

Police Investigate Death of 17year Old YouthAntigua St John's - The Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 17 year old youth of Swetes who died following an alleged electric shock on Monday.

17 year old Xavier Jackson was allegedly electrocuted outside a Retail Shop in Swetes near his home after he took the family donkey to graze.

The electric shock was allegedly caused by an illegal electrical connection that ran through the snackette's roof and originated from an adjacent house.

Jackson was tying his donkey to a pole when his hand touched the galvanize sheet, causing him to be electrocuted. A friend of Jackson attempted to save him, but was unable to.

When Caribarena reporter arrived at the scene, a crowd of angry citizens had gathered outside the snackette, all wanting to know what steps the police will take following this tragedy.

The police have not indicated whether they have been able to contact the residents/owners of the nearby home or the snackette.

Caribarena will continue providing updates on this story as they become available.

No Reasons For His Death

#11 Sad » 2012-04-03 14:07

It is highly stupid that people are finding excuses to justify the death of this 17 year old. I do hope and pray that true justice is brought across with this case.

Prays go out to the family of this young boy

I'd like to extend heartfelt condolences to the family as they mourn Xavier's loss. May they find comfort in the expressions of love and sympathy from their family, friends, and total strangers.

I hope that this is a wake-up call for everyone whose wiring is done haphazardly; please get your homes/businesse s professionally wired, to prevent another tragic loss of life.

Electricity is costly to generate and costly to our environment. Hence the benefits of alternative energy. Howver I cannot support the blogger who deems that the costs are high thats why people use drop cords. Tell me isnt it the same usage and cost whether you get it set up legally or use drop cord to run betweeen houses? get real. The fact is some places because of the structure and poor electrical wiring they are denied approval by DCA/APUA but instead ogf getting it done right they use the illegal and unsafe method

It’s truly sad for this kid to lose his life this way. My deepest condolences go out to this family which must be a very difficult time for them. In my view this ties into the heart of the Wadadli Power Plant (WPP) scandal. Electricity is too expensive in Antigua. Hence, it make it difficult to business, because the cost electricity makes the operation expenses too high.

My Condolences to the Family as well. It is a shame when such a youn life is lost through tragic means. The villagers are angry and I can understand why. but truth be told we know that there are many instances in this country where people use drop cords to illegally transfer electricity from 1 building to the next. APUA has always discouraged this so hopefully now people will realize the danger to themselves and others.

Sad on both sides

It is pretty sad for all,

First and foremost the family who lost a son who seemed to be engaged in an act of obedience and met his death.
Secondly to the persons owning this retail shop, I know they never intended for such an incident but was merely seeking a way to support themselves. How many of us have never ran a cord somewhere to give another electricity?

May God give this family some measure of peace and that they trust Him in this time

This is a real tragedy. I can't believe that the owners of the house and the owners of the snackette (be they the same person or different persons) allowed for such a condition to occur. How many more such dangers are hidden for our young people.
