Ambassador Shoul Called to Account

Ambassador Shoul called to testifyAntigua St John's - Antigua & Barbuda’s non-resident ambassador to China, David Shoul, has been asked to appear before the Public Accounts Committee to provide details on the Chinese-built and financed power plant at Crabbes.

Head of the Committee, Opposition Leader Lester Bird, said he wants Shoul to answer questions about whether the plant is in fact new.

Among the questions are whether Antigua & Barbuda got a used plant, and how Shoul accounts for the huge jump in the eventual price paid for the engines.

There has been growing public demand for an explanation since Caribarena.com published photographs of the engines last month showing leaks and other issues.

At no time during the negotiations, set-up, or commissioning of the plant was there any suggestion that the engines were anything but new.

The opposition leader said he has also written to the resident Chinese ambassador demanding an explanation, but there has not been any response.

First of all.. hats off for the pic.. Not a matter to make fun of but, the picture IS funny. Second, Am not sure if I support Hon. Lester Bird heading this committee where we all know he had no regards for the Public Accounts when he was PM

More questions should be answered!

Ambassador Shoul has a lot of questions to answer, in giving the people of this country a "six for a nine" in the power plant at Crobbes! It is evident that all engines and equipments associated with the plant is nothing but old or used! And, this Ambassador is continuously "praised" by the Chief Servant as been a "great negotiator" or "patriot" for this country! Someone ring the alarm! While at it, give me an aspring! Shoul should be answering other questions relating to the new airport terminal, in which, the Chinese would stay for a indefinite duration of time, and send for their families! He should be answering questions, why skilled Antiguan contractors will not likely get contracts or even work along next to the Chinese in building the terminal? I really that Public Accouts Committee show some teeth in getting Shoul before them!

Hypoccrisy! At the highest level. To say Lester Bird is investigating corruption. HA! Maybe his issue is that the alleged UPP corruption is not as seamless as he'd like

All he needs to do is hire Leroy King's lawyer, then he'll never have to testify. It's apparently called "due process".

Proud to see the son the VC taking on our modern day oppressors.. The way the Chinese yuan is going up it can move from 6 to 1 in less than 10 year.
By the time the next generation is forced to payback; the loan can move from the Current $47,000,000.usd to $300,000,000.usd
David and The chinese can take ANTIGUA then.. ALL ANTIGUANS should rally behind this cause..

Here we go...it's going to be another case of "I was not aware..." or "I was made to understand..." Why is Amb. Shoul allowing the presumptions loom for so long if the plants are in fact as new as he claimed?? If I were him, I would have arranged for ABS to visit the power plant and the nation would be able to see the equipment and that would clear him and the gov't of blame. *sigh*
