Antigua St John's - Antigua & Barbuda’s non-resident ambassador to China, David Shoul, has been asked to appear before the Public Accounts Committee to provide details on the Chinese-built and financed power plant at Crabbes.
Head of the Committee, Opposition Leader Lester Bird, said he wants Shoul to answer questions about whether the plant is in fact new.
Among the questions are whether Antigua & Barbuda got a used plant, and how Shoul accounts for the huge jump in the eventual price paid for the engines.
There has been growing public demand for an explanation since Caribarena.com published photographs of the engines last month showing leaks and other issues.
At no time during the negotiations, set-up, or commissioning of the plant was there any suggestion that the engines were anything but new.
