Four Survive Boat Fire

Boat FireAntigua St. John's - Four people managed to escape with their lives when a boat they were traveling on caught fire late on Friday afternoon in the waters near Bird Island.

Reports reaching Caribarena suggest that the cause of the fire could have been electrical, but that would be confirmed after a formal investigation is done.

The French registered vessel was a part of a caravan tour around the island and when the incident occurred the occupants of the affected boat had managed to slip over to another boat in the group.

“There were apparently four people on board but they were caravanning along with other boats so they went with the other boats,” said Director of ABSAR – Jonathan Cornelius.

“Most likely it’s electrical, but their insurance will have to investigate to be sure. But that's the usual culprit when it comes to boat fires,” he added.
