Antigua St. John's - A Cabinet decision to postpone a meeting Tuesday with a special committee of the Barbuda Council has angered at least one member.
Senator Arthur Nibbs - one of the seven people appointed to hold talks with Cabinet on the contentious Gravenor Bay project - said members have been told that the discussions could not take place as scheduled due to ongoing carnival celebrations.
However, Nibbs told Caribarena.com that the central government should have placed higher priority on thrashing out concerns regarding the project, valued at US$100 million.
"In our estimation carnival events are in the evening, which means the daytime is free and it's like putting carnival over the people's business," he said.
"While we understand that carnival is an important cultural event, we do not see that it should have taken precedence over the welfare of the people of Barbuda," Nibbs added.
