CGE Training Workshop Underway In Antigua

Ruleta CamachoAntigua St. John's - The Conservation Group of Experts (CGE) on National Communications is currently in Antigua conducting a hands-on training workshop at the Jolly Beach Hotel on the vulnerability and adaptation assessments for the Latin America and Caribbean region. The event concludes on Friday.

Chairman of the group Ruleta Camacho said the event is of notable importance since it addresses one of the Group’s key objectives of assisting non-Annex Parties in the preparation of their national communications by providing technical assistance to these parties for the vulnerability and adaptation assessment.

The workshop comes with a view to improving the accuracy, consistency and transparency of the information reported in national communications, and this particular event is one in a series of sessions aimed at fulfilling this mandate.

This assessment, said Ms. Camacho, is not only important as an input into national communications, but also because of its potential to serve as a very important planning tool for sustainable development and poverty alleviation.

The training opened on Thursday and was attended by Robelto Isaac, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Housing and the Environment among others. Isaac delivered the feature address.

“In implementing its mandate for 2010 to 2012 the CGE agreed that its training materials, vulnerability and adaptation and mitigation assessments required updating, and thus decided to include updating its training materials as one of the activities under its work program,” Camacho said.

These updated training materials are now been used at the CGE regional hands-on training workshops, as it was the group’s aim to ensure that such training workshops covering all relevant areas are made available to all 3 regions namely; Africa, Asia & Pacific, and Latin America & Caribbean region.

“I would like to note that the vulnerability and adaptation assessment training workshop for the Latin America and Caribbean region comes at a crucial time when a number of parties are preparing for their 3rd national communications, and the effect of climate change has been more exacerbated at levels never seen before,” Camacho concluded.
