Airport Security Officers Shore Up SkillsAntigua St. John’s - Ten security officers from the Antigua & Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA) have just completed a two-day training seminar hosted by the Office of National Drug & Money Laundering Control Policy, (ONDCP).

The purpose of the exercise, which was held on June 18 and 19, was to increase the level and effectiveness of security and border control operations at the V.C. Bird International Airport.

Topics such as Profiling, Information Gathering, Observation, Concealment Methods, Investigation, and Interview Techniques formed the basis of the training, a release said.

At the opening ceremony, Director of the ONDCP Lt. Col. Edward Croft praised the officers for taking the initiative to request training which he said would further equip them with the necessary skills needed to effectively carry out their duties. He welcomed the opportunity for the two organisations to improve their working relationship while learning from each other’s experiences.

The work of airport security is very critical and it is imperative that every effort be made to ensure that security officers have the requisite knowledge and skills to maintain and improve where necessary security at the V C Bird International Airport.



At the completion of the seminar, the airport security officers conveyed their satisfaction with the information received, and commented on the professionalism of the lecturers. One security officer stated that the training gave him a better overall understanding of his job functions while another officer said that the sessions were ‘very enlightening’.

Lt. Col. Croft stated that as V C Bird International Airport is the gateway to Antigua & Barbuda it is hoped that the training received will influence an improved service of security excellence, as the men and women of airport security seek to implement the new skills learned.

Through their improved professionalism, it is further hoped that residents and visitors will experience a safer environment when travelling through our international airport.
