Pendergest Holt Cops a Plea

Laura Pendergest HoltAntigua St John's - Reports have surfaced to the effect that Laura Pendergest Holt, who worked with R. Allen Stanford as his chief investment officer, has concluded a plea deal with federal authorities.

Pendergest Holt has reportedly agreed to plead guilty to charges of assisting Stanford in carrying out his US$7B Ponzi scheme. As part of the bargain she will serve three years in prison for her role in the fraud.

The plea bargain remains officially under wraps, and Justice Department officials declined to confirm or deny that a deal had been arranged; but leaks indicate that the majority of the charges laid against Pendergest Holt will be withdrawn, with the sole exception of a single charge of obstructing a federal investigation.

Pendergest Holt, who continues to protest her innocence, is expected to face trial in September. She officially faces several charges relating to her role in facilitating the operations of the Stanford fraud.

R. Allen Stanford has already been sentenced to 110 years in federal prison. Prosecutors had originally demanded a sentence of 230 years. Stanford is appealing his conviction.

In 2009 federal prosecutors charged Pendergest Holt with conspiring to mislead investors. She allegedly told prospective investors in Stanford Financial Group Co. that she was responsible for managing the investment portfolio of Stanford International Bank Ltd. In reality, Pendergest Holt might have played a relatively minor role in the bank’s operations.

Stanford, 62, was convicted of organizing an international pyramid scheme. In such Ponzi-style frauds revenues contributed by new investors joining the pyramid at lower levels are used to pay attractive returns to those who came on board earlier.

The once-powerful international financier is thought to have squandered huge sums of investors’ money on a lavish lifestyle that included sponsoring a single international cricket match to the tune of US$20 million.

Bird gets zero years, Spencer gets zero years, King gets zero years, Cort gets zero years.

Sir Allen gets life, P-G gets three, Davis to be sentenced.

I guess that makes it 100% for American justice and 0% for Antiguan justice.

But since Sir Allen's lawyer is the Minister of "Justice" in Antigua, that was to be expected.

Plea deal for King

I guess we can now also look for a plea deal for King. Maximum sentence life in Antigua under a coconut tree and rum punch at the beach. That is a very cruel sentence. And revoke his US citizenship if he had one.

...as a sidebar, Eric Holder President Obama's Attorney General, has been held in contempt of court by an oversight committee in the US House of Representatives controlled by the Republicans. The case now goes before the entire House of Congress which is controlled by the Repuiblicans. One might ask, what implication(s) does this have on the RAS saga? Remember, it is these same Republicans (not necessarily the same one's in name but character) who wants to investigate/pla ce sanctions against Antigua, Barbuda & Redonda. Again, they will stop at nothing to emba**, bring to trial, convict, sentence anyone who they deem to a threat to their phiolosophy...D EMONACRACY....

The "big FISH" in this instance, might just be the Nation of Antigua, Barbuda & Redonda. While Stanford has already been convicted and sentenced, the saga must continue. This plea bargain agreement will more than likely provide the DOJ with armunition for the next round of trials. Our Nation which has been battling with the DOJ in the International Courts and have beaten them, have left a nasty taste in the DOJ mouth, and they want blood, "the treasury of our Nation." I will predict, that once the next round of trials and convictions are completed, the DOJ wins, then the next step, is to place sanctions against our Nation. The RAS saga continues, it is far from over....

3 years are they serious!!!

This woman aided and abetted Stanford in a $7 Billion Ponzi scheme. The victims after 3 years have not received a singe cent and have to look forward to a future of poverty.

Not only has she and Stanford ruined the lives of the immediate victims but this will affect the families of victims for generations, money that would normally be passed on from father to son is gone. College funds lost, health care gone and this woman has the temerity to think 3 years is sufficient punishment for her part in destroying the lives of countless people.

Why does the DOJ feel the need to make a deal with Pendergast when they already caught the big fish? How does this plea benefit them?
