Police Search for Sanders Seemingly on Ice

Police Search for Sanders Seemingly on IceAntigua St John's - Police interest in Antigua & Barbuda’s former high commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sir Ronald Sanders for questioning about his possible involvement in the ongoing US$14 M IHI controversy seems to have died a natural death.

Sir Ronald told Caribarena.com that he has not heard from the policeforce since a wanted bulletin was issued in January. He was named as “a person of interestin the multimillion dollar Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co Ltd (IHI) Japan scandal dating back to the 1990s.

“I know nothing about it other than its issuance and my lawyers' response,” Sir Sanders said.

Caribarena questioned the former Antiguan diplomat about rumours that steps have been taken from his end to sue the police for defamation and/or slander.

He said, “This is a sensitive matter in the hands of lawyers. I would prefer not to comment.”

Caribarena also spoke with Commissioner of Police Vere Browne for an update on the status of the case, and particularly the force’s interesting Sir Ronald, but Browne said he had no information to give at this time.

“The police will give an update at the appropriate time. I have no comments on the matter right now,” the police commissioner said.

The police had justified issuing a wanted bulletin for Sir Sanders on unsuccessful efforts to contact him. The bulletin was also published on the government's website as an official news release.

Morris its a pity more persons cannot see through the games being played. Every December some file is claimed to go missing. The COP's boss is Dr. Errol Cort. Cort will most likely run against LB in the next election. I suspect the COP makes these moves to gain brownie points with his boss. I guess his notion is that his tenure as COP will not be based on sucess in fighting crime but in showing loyalty to his political bosses.

It is very hard to believe that a crime of such magnitude would just fizzle into thin air. People are smart enough to realize that they cannot give any update on a crime that didn't happen. All the hoopla was just to distract the public.

This Commissioner is a disgrace

What an emba**ment to this country. But we have to excuse him. He is a political appointment. I was in Tortola recently and they laugh at us. They said he moved up the ranks there through long service but did not have the xxxx to xx any xxxxxx. And BS pick him up and make him Commissioner. I predict that this bull in a China shop will create so many loaw suits that we will have to sell Antigua to pay.

fnpsr, that too is still yet to be solved! Heard the thief took about $10,000 in the safe, along with some documents! Why no guards on duty see anything that day in question? Later, we heard from Dr Cort that someone jumped over GH's fence, got "physical" with a guard then left (probably in thin air). Fnpsr, these are the "foolishness" the public have to be exposed to, instead the COP go and fight crimes and unsolved one!

Commissioner, your house needs cleaning, futher more you need to vacate your house; I can see the strings above your head and I can also see the person tugging on the said strings.... Did he tug your strings when you aired on ZDK the other day? Or were the strings a bit loose so you could have spoken freely? If you did a poll on the confidence the public has in your police force where do you think you and the force will rank?... We can see the facade that permeates the entire police force..... clean house before you become holier than thou....

Stay tune for another broadcast

I guess by the time the COP is ready to brief the public on Sir Ron's "possible involvement" in this case, he will use the state's radio and tv to go on the airwaves, just like he did in the "alleged" break-in at the High Court, where the thief walk right in an "unlocked" court and stole files in the IHI matter! Did the COP ever found such "ghostly" person or persons? Stay tune for his broadcast!

You nee to speak to the SPECIAL CONSTABLE! He should have the information. My feeling is that everything will be on hold to be brought back just before the next elections - which may be sooner that we think!
