Fiennes Master Wants Help to Curb Pension Abuse

Pension AbuseAntigua St John's - Head of the Fiennes Institute Alton Forde wants help from governmental agencies such as the Ministry of Finance, Social Security, Treasury, Legal Affairs, and Ministry of Health to stop misuse of residents' pensions.

He wants these agencies to collectively devise policies and legislation that would lead to a more transparent pension payment process. According to the Fiennes Institute head, there is a serious issue of pensioners' funds being misappropriated by relatives.

Forde complained about monthly visits by some relatives who secure signatures for pension collection, but do not return to see about the residents' welfare.

He urged the authorities to create legislature where wards at the Fiennes Institute would have their pensions relinquished to the government so that the finances would go back to the state. Similar legislation is already in place in many countries around the world, he noted.

The Fiennes Institute is a state-owned institution which houses displaced senior citizens.

I am in agreement with Mr Ford, although i would not suggest that the pensions go back directly to the Govt. A better way would be to have the realtives pay some sort of cost from the moneys, had they taken their parent/relative to a private home there would be a hugh cost involved.I agree that some persons may not be able to keep them at home for various reasons, but had they any Love for their parent, they could not just cast them aside and leave them there,i believe some parents, those still in their collective minds suffer emotionally because of the way they are treated by their Children, its a shame that they can find the time to get what ever signed, but cant find the time to see them otherwise,it is cold & cruel and they will be dealt with by the almighty. They are now the Govts responsibility, so i see nothing wrong if the govt demand some payment to help with their care, which they obviously refuse to be a part of.I also agree that the Institution needs revamping, but you choose to take your parent there knowing the situation, that do not justify the cruelty of ones parent/relative

Part 2.

The residents have no activities, they are always indoors; they need a sense of purpose; they need activities that will keep their minds sharp and alert, something to look forard to every day. Unless this government can guarantee that they will use the monies for upkeep of the institution and to build a recreation center for bingo, karaoke, games, dancing, etc., for our seniors, I say no way to relinquishing their monies to the government!

Quote: "He urged the authorities to create legislature where wards of the Fiennes Institute would have their pensions relinquished to the govetnment so that the finances would go back to the state." I say absolutely not!
The residents at the Fiennes Institute do not get A+ treatment. I had the displeasure of stopping by one day to visit someone when lunch was being served under the gallery; flies, flies, everywhere and on the rims of the cups that these unfortunate senior citizens had to drink from. I was in shock and truly disgusted at the mediocre way this institute is being run. Most of the residents are always asking visitors who are total strangers to bring them juice and other things when they visit again. Relatives have to provide pampers for their loved ones, so if the monies are relinquished and returned to the state, would they start providing the bare necessities for these residents? Who would be the beneficiaries of their hard earned money? I say the residents worked hard for their money so their families can and should get their pension, regardless. Would the state use the monies to improve the lives and living conditions of the residents?
