IMF and EU on Two-Week Mission

IMF and EUAntigua St John's - A joint delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Union (EU) is in Antigua on a two-week mission to identify the country’s technical assistance needs in respect of public financial management.

The assistance will be funded by an EU grant of 3 million Euros, and managed by the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department and the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre.

A release from the government said the goal of the 30-month project is "to strengthen and modernize fiscal institutions adequately, to allow the government to implement a reform programme aimed at restoring fiscal sustainability".

From a revenue standpoint, the technical assistance will focus on completing the intensive programme to support rapid improvements in tax and customs administration. This programme was initiated in 2010 with support from the British Department for International Development (DFID).

In respect of public financial management, reforms will centre on more urgent, near-term measures to strengthen expenditure management and control.

More advanced reforms such as programme budgeting and capacity building will ensure that national priorities are smoothly implemented within the framework of public financial management.

The joint delegation is scheduled to meet with a number of senior public sector officials during the mission, which ends on January 26.

@ Morris - Cry Our Beloved Country

#4 John French II » 2012-01-18 01:28

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock. It is truly amazing that a Resident, Citizen, or a National finds peace and comfort in having external forces running his or her Country/Nation. This is the 21st Century. Quote:
Many Men, Many, Many, Many, Many Men wish Death Pon Us! Don't Cry No Mo! Don't Look to the Sky No Mo! Have Mercy Pon Us!
Morris, Beautifully Put. When will our fellow Citizens understand the difficult path they are going down. This brings back memories of my visit to Goree Island off the coast of Senegal and vividly and painfully coming to grips with the ancestral past as I looked westward on the Atlantic from "The Gate Of No Return." Have Mercy Pon Us. Go Well My Brother! With Much Respect.

"The technical assistance will focus on completing the intensive programme to support rapid improvements in tax and customs administration. " Of course it will, because they want what is in their best interest - uninterrupted repayment with interest. They sure would not like to hear the standard gov't is broke line.

Some Women say Quote:
Beware of Greeks Bearing Gifts.
So this is Indepence! And what have you done? Some Thirty Years Later, Still dependent on the North Atlantic Privateers, not only for Economic Sustenance but Educational & Spiritual Guidance.

Human Capacity Development for Nation Building - Quote:

Robinson Crusoe must be having a serene time as he sits on his "Observer" Perch watching the "natives" being slowly led to the holds for this "middle passage" to recolonization. He looks around and he sees "Big Church" with "Angels in the Archtecture" fully cognizant of the Proverb that you Quote:
Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
"Ah Dem Run Tings!"
